I'm a shopaholic and I have a 13th cheque coming up soon so I was thinking of perhaps getting a new phone.

I currently have the U700, which is a really brilliant phone and I love it to death. Thing is, I spend the majority of my time texting and surfing the net on my phone so I would ideally like a QWERTY keyboard (a Blackberry is ideal - although I can't afford one). So, I was looking at the F700. Does anyone have any experience with this phone, or know anyone who has it? I've read tons of mixed reviews so I'm struggling to make up my mind.

The F700 is apparently between R2,999 - R3,995 which is just what I can afford - a contract is out of the question because my salary doesn't allow for fancy stuff like that. sad.gif

Most people I've spoken to say I should just put the money into savings and stick with my current phone for longer (I've had it just over a year now) but my fingers are itchy. sad.gif

Opinions?

QWERTY on a cellphone FTL. What a total pain in the ass.

I second the iPhone idea, that's my plan too. It's the way forward.

Its against my beliefs to buy a phone once-off. If you dont get it on contract, just keep what you've got.

99% of people use the phoning and texting 99% of the time, and your current phone can do that, right?

ya I'm developing for windows mobile 6.0 hence why I would suggest the HTC Diamond smile.gif had a chance to play with the phone... it's feking awesome... but personally I would say keep your 13th cheque for xmas... trust me you'll need it with current inflation and shit sad.gif

hmmm take the other guys advice.....

You do know a contract would mean +-R144 x 24= 3,456 + 599Handset cost = R4,055 Say R4,100 plus you get the free minutes and anyone with a salary of 3500 or more and a bank account would qualify for the weekend everyday contract. Not to mention the savings on phonecall cost compared to prepaid. see theVodacom Direct website for details.

The contract works out much cheaper than forking out cash upfront(especially if you present value the net costs and benefits). Set a bill limit at R300 or something and you shouldn't overspend on a contract.

Well, a friend of mine has the iPhone and it is the awesomeness but:

a. It will undoubtedly be way out of my price range;
b. The camera doesn't have a flash which just grates my nipples;
c. I don't like the way you have to SMS, and the fact that you can't forward SMSs is kinda frustrating;
d. My friend has had a couple problems with it, for example, the reception while phoning is terrible.

Yeah, pity I don't make that much. dry.gif

Sigh, I suppose I will just save my damn money. I will have to tie my hands behind my back to stop me from spending it. Perhaps I will win the lottery and then I will buy twenty F700s. biggrin.gif

apprently there's reported issues with the iphone... BUT it's only some cases and many believe it's the receipton of the network and not the phone itself
