ok so I needed some new hardware and heres the specs of my new rig
GA-EP45-DS3 - Gigabyte motherboard
9600 GS - GV-NX96G384H 384 Mb DDR3
2.6 DUO Core
80 Gig SATA II HDD for my boot partition
4 gigs transcend DDRII 1066 Ram (2X2)

Do you plan to overclock? If not, you would do just as fine with DDR2-800, as that is what the motherboard will run the RAM at (if I am not mistaken).
Why only 80GB hd? You should be able to get a 320GB for not a lot more.

the drive is to be used purely as a boot partition, I have over a terrabyte of drive space on other drives anyway.
I dont plan to overclock

What do you need the new rig for?
as for 2x2gig DDR1066 pricing is a bit steep... if you not into overclocking thne DDR800 is more than sufficient for your needs. maybe cut back on that and stock up with 2x250gigs raid
