So, if you aren't aware of what The Secret is, it's the idea that anything you want in life you can have through positive thinking and simply believing you will have it - in other words, the law of attraction. It says that negative thoughts create negative situations in your life.. The Secret.. Apparently, whatever we think of, we draw to us. So, if you think "I never have enough money", you will never have enough money. But if you think "I have wealth", you will have wealth.

One section of the book gives a way to test the secret and that is to imagine a feather in your mind. You need to imagine every fine detail of this feather. Then you simply need to know and believe without a doubt that you will get that feather. You should think about it every day and imagine how you would feel when you received it, and constantly thank the universe for the feather (even if you haven't received it yet) and be truly grateful. Now, I have a buddy who tried this and he really did find this feather. I tried it with a single red rose with a half-dead petal which I never got. dry.gif Was his just a coincidence?

So what do you guys think about it? Have you got any experiences with it? It ends up being a lifestyle choice too, to always be a positive person, but it's extremely difficult to do - have you ever tried spending a day without thinking a single negative thing? I've been trying it really hard lately and it truly has made me a happier person overall, but I find it so difficult to actually live like that. O_O

But seriously, if this really works and I can have anything I want in life, does that mean that Matthew Bellamy will marry me?!? Ooh, I would so be his plug-in baby any time he wanted. sad.gif (I think we will all agree that there is nothing sexier than a guy playing guitar - especially a Matthew Bellamy playing guitar). in_love.gif

Sounds like a bunch of money making? Then again, if you do think about something the whole time you will probably end up with it somehow (especially little things such as the feather example). I suppose you wandering mind will spend more time trying to pick it up then normally and thus you will 'find' it, maybe you already had but now you did it actively.

I do agree about the positive thinking, its hard but is there another way? I was a pretty negative person but then I changed, it is eventually what you make of it. And being negative is just silly (unless you are stuck in a war etc) as most people get negative over little things that really have no influence over their lives. I do tend to believe that life is tough, but so are we and you can get over most things, it just takes a moment to step back, take a breath and start again. To have this power daily is impossible but if you can put things in perspective you will find that there is (probably) almost another way. Whether it is better or not will depend on when the bad strikes again.

So yeah for positive thinking (it does not have to drip of you though), nay for thinking and receiving (really,if it was that easy..). But a positive mindset goes a long way to achieving what you want.

Also Matt is probably more interested in me sad.gif

The Secret is really no secret. Positive thinking has been written about for ages. The Science Of Getting Rich, by Wallace Wattles was written in 1910, and was the main inspiration that got Rhonda Byrne to produce The Secret DVD. Prior to SOGR, there was Though Vibrations Or The Law Of Attraction In The Thought World, by William Atkinson. There was also Think And Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill, considered by many to be the BEST motivational book ever, and I tend to agree.

That said though, I used to be an extremely negative person, before I had read The Secret. Sure, it is difficult at first to change your mindset from positive to negative, but thinking positively DOES make a HUGE difference. A lot of the time, people will say that they are just being realistic when they are positive (how many times don't people complain about the way they feel a company is run, etc), but at the end of the day, they ARE being negative. I know, I used to be one of those people.

I have a friend who is still extremely negative. I remember once last year, he said to me that he hates money, because it is something that he hardly ever has. Truly, ever since he has said that, he has had less and less money in his pocket. Coincidence? I think not.

Read SOGR. It is available for (legally) free download, and is less than 80 pages long. It explains the law of attraction much better than The Secret does. The thing is that "The Secret" is not just about thinking about the things that you want, but also behaving in a certain way, and acting in a certain way (as detailed in SOGR). You also need to have unwavering faith as well as belief in the process.

I have been trying these things out, and they have been working for me. I had a KAK week last week, and I believe that this was due to getting pissed off about something not so long ago, which I didn't have to (not gonna go into detail about it right now). But the more I work at this stuff, the more I also see that Napoleon Hill was right when we said in TAGR that there is no such a thing as coincidence - just step back, and take a look at you life, and you will see that even the smallest even led to another, and another, and you will see that the pieces of the puzzle fit together beautifully together.

Yeah, positive thinking is one thing, but this "seeing something you want, seeing every detail and believing you will get it" etc. sounds obsessive to me. (think stalker)

The guy with the feather probably lived on a chicken farm, and if you lived on a rose farm you would get your rose too.

I'm generally skeptical about anything plugged by Oprah.

I also think it's seeing what you want to see. You may have seen several feathers before but you only really notice them not that you're looking for one. Ultimately though I reckon it's just trying to teach you a positive mindset.

Ignorance is bliss they say....

cyfermaster
i haven't read it, but a friend of mine has and she is trying out all the stuff. not sure if it is working for her or not. although I do believe it is quite a change in mindset, and as Surge said, you have to have complete faith. At least from what I am told. Maybe I will give it a read one day to see what it is all about. smile.gif I am not that big into reading though. sad.gif
Surge
Cyfer, rather get it on DVD if you are not big on reading - only 1h40 minutes roughly, and has just about everything that is in the book.
cyfermaster
thanks Surge. I will look at doing that, although I am starting to try read more. confused.gif well books. I read enough things in e-mail and online. If anyone has an e-mail version of The Secret... send it my way. smile.gif bleh.gif
RustPuppet
I have the DVD if you want it cyfer. Not like I'm going to watch it wink.gif

If you think about something a lot, you will probably work harder to get it. But it WILL NOT appear out of thin air just because you will it.

Yes, people might be missing the point.

It all depends on how you approach life and deal with the difficulties thrown your way.

If you have a general positive outlook and do not let money rule your life ahead of happiness (professionally that is), there is no reason whatsoever for you to be unhappy. You will also notice hoe some things just don't seem that important anymore....

I also have experienced the same thing, I have a friend who is also soooo negative and I have honestly never seen anything go right for him in life, whether it comes to relationships, money, etc. etc., and they keep getting worse. It's actually really sad, because we clearly can play a big role in our lives and our happiness and yet some people just don't want to make the effort..

Cyfermaster, I also have the DVD that I can lend you, although not sure when I'll see you next? Still have to arrange skating for sometime soon. biggrin.gif
