So we all (or most) have our cars fitted with a tracking device, mostly by obligation right?(most insurance compaines force you to install them)... Ever thought about what happens to the tracker should your car be stolen, or written off? Do we actually realise how much these devices really cost us? or are how long are you obliged to pay?

well ponder no further, just another way that the insurance companies F us over...linky

Personally if my car is stolen, i dont give a rats ass. I dont want a car back thats been half torn to shreds by the thieves who stole it, then fixed by an insurer the uses substandard panel beaters to do their scrappy job on repairs. A tracker has no value to me, it only covers the insurance company and increases their chances of not having to compensate me.

Rather disgusting. But hey, who ever said that insurance is really all that fair?

Another thing to keep in mind...

I have a Golf 5 2.0 TDi that I've had for about two years now. I bought it with about 40K on the clock from Hatfield VW in Bryanston.

I've started having issues with my battery over the past while. If I don't drive my car for two or three days, it won't start. I've taken to it three various VW dealerships, had it run on diagnostics, the whole trip. They all concluded that it has something to do with my tracking system. I've had my tracking company out twice and they've now said that they will come out again, disconnect the system and I must leave the car for two/three days to see if it really is their system that's draining my battery. If not, there is a good chance that the previous owner had a tracking system installed that is draining on my battery. I would then have to find out which tracking company it is, get them out and they'd have to look for a system and if they find one, disconnect it or remove it.

I've taken my car to a reputable auto electrician too to see if he could find the drain. Nothing engine related apparently.

What a fucking pain in the ass.

Sorry for the off-topic, but there is clearly more than one way that insurance companies and by association, tracking system companies can F you over.

Phone the guys from this site they may be able to get the info you need on your car and then you could follow up, instead of phoning every single tracking company. at least you'll be able to avoid phoning hundreds of companies(cost of info= R105)

I know they can tell who insured the vehicle, so you could give the previous owners insurer a call and find out from them who the prior tracking company was.
(using your Vehicle REG number/ previous reg number, also avialable from the My Auto info report) HEHEHE would be ironic if its the same tracking company with two devices in your car:D

another thing I heard regarding the tracking device...

Apprently there are guys who steals cars only to find out there's a tracking device... they would then slash the seats etc before dumping the car and when the car is recovered your insurance company won't cover the slashed seats as they will say it may have been slashed before the theft.

solution : take the buss
Nitro Guy
what bus travels throughout the jhb/midrand/eastrand areas? and who wants to take the jhb busses anyways? there's no way i'm risking my life/asshole/sanity for a couple thousand rands that the insurance may not pay. its a grudge purchase nobody wants to take insurance.

And before anyone asks, yes i do use busses/taxi's just not in Jhb, i use the durban ones. jhb ones are too hectic and i will be using them tommorow in fact i'll be making the usuall trip down this weekend king.gif

they should've used the money for the gautrain to build subways instead ermm.gif
Nitro Guy
They also hould have used the money from buying military frigates, helicopters, and and eskom management bonuses to build schools and import teachers from abroad...

the Gravytrain(politically correct version=Gautrain), is a bribery/corruption deal
