Ok so we have like 10 days to go till the the first match of Euro 2008... who's gonna take this one? the Greeks again?

here's the Schedule:

LINK

Sorry had to split into two sections sad.gif

I think germany has the easiest route...
cyfermaster
Guys, please note you need to choose an option from both options. It's pretty simple. If you think a team from the first option list is going to win then select them and choose N/A from option 2, and vica versa.
Heir_of_Isildur
The Greeks have NO chance of repeating!

The Germans are looking like a sure bet for the semi's, but other than that... no idea!
Surge
Agreed with Heir.

I will probably support some "underdog" from the quarters, onwards, since England couldn't even qualify.
Fishfly
I must say i've got a feeling that Germany's dark horse may just get it right this year

DOES NO ONE ACTUALLY EVEN REALIZE THAT THE TEAM WITH THE BEST MIDFIELDER IN THE WORLD IS PLAYING TOO????

fools
Surge
People realise that, but can't forget how he cried at the last tournament. sad.gif

Poland 0 - 1 Crotia
Germany 2 - 0 Austria
Switzerland 0 - 1 Cech Republic
Portugal 2 - 0 Turkey
Frace 0 - 0 Romania
Italy 0 - 3 Holland

That first goal in the italian match was blatent offside stupid linesmen gifted Holland a goal which changed the entire game... angry.gif
Heir_of_Isildur
YAY Holland /

I like them, but they never perform >:(

lol

Italy were outplayed from the beginning.

And \o/ for the greeks getting their asses handed to them yesterday. That'll teach them to only think defensively.

Not quite. Italy had plenty of chances in the second half and outplayed Holland in the 2nd half, they just didn't take their chances like Holland did. However, that said Holland did an Italy against Italy. Defend and beat them on the counter attack.
toasted
DEUTSCHLAND DEUTSCHLAND UBER ALLES!
Fishfly
so looks like the QF are drawing closer and closer...

Italy is now in a precidiment as they have to win it and hope Holland does them a favour to either win or draw against Romania... Scary thing is:

Group C

Holland's barnstorming displays against Italy and France mean they have already qualified as winners of the group. But it's far more complicated for second place between Romania, Italy and France.

For Romania the task is simple. If they pick up three points against what is likely to be a below-strength Dutch side they will be through. Romania and Holland were grouped together in qualifying with Romania taking four points from the two meetings.

If Romania lose they can only stay in the competition if France and Italy finish goalless, but even that has conditions. If they draw they need Italy and France to draw also.

Italy and France, as mentioned, must rely on Holland taking points off Romania. In that event the winner of the Italy-France match will go through.

Should Italy and France draw and Romania lose, then all three sides will be level on two points. The first decider is head-to-head, and when three teams are involved a mini-league is created. The results for the Netherlands are ignored.

As Italy have a goal difference of 1-1 and France 0-0, then France cannot overtake Italy in the event of a draw. Italy will always remain ahead of them on goals scored. So France have to win to stand a chance of reaching the quarter-finals - any other result and they are out.

If Italy and France draw 0-0 and Romania lose, then Italy and Romania will have identical records in the three-team mini league. It will then go down to goal difference. If Romania lose by fewer than three goals they will qualify.

If Romania were to lose by more than three goals then Italy would finish second. If they lose by three goals it will be decided on goals scored. A 0-3 defeat will mean they have an identical scoring record of 1-4 with Italy, so the positions would be decided on co-efficient. Italy's co-efficient is 2.36 and Romania 2.25, so under the 0-0/0-3 scenario it would be Italy who go through.

However, if Romania lose by three goals at a ratio of 1-4 or greater then they would finish second by virtue of goals scored.

Clear? Basically, If France and Italy draw 0-0 Romania have to lose by fewer than three goals or 1-4 and upwards by ratio.

Now, if France and Italy draw 1-1 or any greater number then Italy will go through as they will have scored more goals than France or Romania in the three-team mini-league.

Group D

Spain have won the group as they have beaten both Sweden and Russia, while Greece are out as they have lost to both.

That means it comes down to a direct shootout between Sweden and Russia. As Sweden have the superior goal different they only require a draw. Russia have to beat them to progress. Penalties will not happen if the match is drawn.

sad.gif it's going to be way interesting, and super exciting/irritating/nerve wrenching all in 1 go. sad.gif
Fishfly
hmmm the gf has pip... maybe I go over to watch both matches... oh wait she doesn't have pvr sad.gif
cyfermaster
yay for Italy. Didn't see the sending off of the French player, so can't comment on that, but from what I did see it looks like they played a bit better in this game and the commentators seemed to think they deserved the win. smile.gif Go team.
Heir_of_Isildur
Yeah, the red card was deserved dry.gif

Fucking frenchmen... can never count on them sad.gif
cyfermaster
The quarter finals are going to be quite interesting.... Could be some cracking games there.
cyfermaster
The QF's are as such.

Thursday 19 June 2008
Portugal vs Germany Basel - St. Jakob-Park

Friday 20 June 2008
Croatia vs Turkey Vienna - Ernst Happel

Saturday 21 June 2008
Netherlands vs Russia Basel - St. Jakob-Park

Sunday 22 June 2008
Spain vs Italy Vienna - Ernst Happel

I think the 2 hardest games here are the Portugal vs Germany game and the Spain vs Italy. I reckon Croatia will beat Turkey and Netherlands should give Russia a little lesson in football.
Fishfly
I think Turkey may give Crotia a good run for their money...

As for the Porra's vs :nazi: hmmm tough call!
Heir_of_Isildur
I hope you're right about the Russians losing, but I have a feeling they're going to be tough competition.

This is why the Euro Championships are tougher than the World Cup smile.gif
cyfermaster
If the last one is anything to go by, then the team we think has the least chance of winning... will actually go on and win... that would be Russia IMO. However, I don't think they will get past The Netherlands. It's not impossible, but I think it is highly unlikely.
Fishfly
well mind you Holland hasn't really been out guns blazing in the last two games... they got the lucky break when legs are tired and they scored the last two goals tongue.gif

Looks like Germany secured the first Semi Finals Slot and yet again the portuguese failed to impress in matches that count...

What would Turkey vs Crotia hold... Turkey winners?
Surge
I would like to see Turkey go through. Underdawgs have my full support. biggrin.gif
cyfermaster
Croatia will beat Turkey. At least that's what I think.
Fishfly
NO turkey will WIN! I have faith! as much as I can throw it tongue.gif

LOL WTF!!!

The Dutch were behind the whole game... was surprised when they equalized. Well done Russia!
toasted
I have no voice left after screaming at the TV last night. Man, that game was brilliant. Russia were amazing! Woot woot.

I'm thinking there could very easily be a Russia vs. Germany final. How exciting would that be?! As long as they don't beat Germany.. I will be burning my German passport in a big bonfire if they do. sad.gif
millennia
dry.gif

And the dutch do it again...

Awesome in qualifying but fail at the first elimination hurdle dry.gif
Surge
Perhaps the Dutch could have done better, had they had a striker who can score from OUTSIDE the 18 yard box as well, ala van Nistelrooy.

I agree with you totally. I was just saying that IMO before the game The Russians were the underdogs. I really didn't expect them to play like that. That said. They played a brilliant game and I look forward to them doing the same against Spain. If Russia lost that game it wouldn't have been a fair reflection of the match. Well done to them.

Italy is out. sad.gif Didn't see the game so can't comment on it at all.
Fishfly
italy played like beyond shit... spain had just under 30 shots italy had 5 with 2 on target!

can't believe they let De Rossi take the second penalty! and WTF de natalie before Del Pero?????? I think Donodoni will be fired after this performance... shocking shocking shocking
Surge
So, it's down to Spain and Germany. Who will it be?

I say that Spain will take the glory.

Does Fabregas also remind you of Sylar?
cyfermaster
haha. yeah, he does kinda. tongue.gif

Should be a good final.
Fishfly
hahahaha Cesc Fabragas for 9 months then Sylar for 3 months laugh.gif
Heir_of_Isildur
I usually liken Spain to the Dutch. I'd like to see them winning, but I very much doubt they will.

Surge
Woohoo! Go Spain!

I hated it when Sylar got substituted, but at least the Spaniards still went on to kick ass. That side has such great potential to dominate on the world scene as well! ph34r.gif
cyfermaster
alas it is over. Well done to Spain. 44 years since their last major title. clap.gif Bad luck to Germany. Heard they were outplayed though. Was a good goal. (saw it in the highlights)
