President Thabo Mbeki has strongly condemned the continuous acts of xenophobia in South Africa, SABC news reported on Thursday.

Mbeki also called on police to act strongly against those guilty of the attacks.

Mbeki's comments come amid growing concern about attacks against foreigners in South Africa.

The president is currently attending an African Development Bank meeting in Maputo, Mozambique.

At least two people were killed and 60 injured when Alexandra residents attacked immigrants in violent clashes which started on Sunday.

There were also attacks on immigrants in Diepsloot.

More than 1 000 immigrants were now staying at the Alexandra and Bramley police stations after they were displaced from their homes, the SA Red Cross Society said.

And what did the government expect? They let millions of foreigners into the country, most of whom are taken advantage of, further increasing the unemployment rates. And do not get me started on crime, every time you read something in the paper, see something on the news, they do mention Zimbabweans, Nigerians, etc.

And the poor/destitute is feeling the brunt of this foreign assault.

I personally would like us to deport every single illegal alien (foreigner smile.gif) in the country. They fucked up their own, now they want to fuck up mine. They rock up in their thousand every day and expect all the rights of citizens, and expect the government to support/feed them, further straining our sometimes volatile economy.

I made mention of the emmigration and deportation laws a while back when I wrote this : http://www.theselfishbastard.com/to-the-dogs/

I am not surprised it has started happening, and its going to get a lot worse.

what i found at times rather weird is at the law clinic where i work... we have a special division for refugees where they can get legal representation... and almost all times when these people come in to complain about violence perpetrated against them.. the perpetrators are black people, black South Africans.. one would think that they of all South African races would have empathy for refugees, for their fellow Africans... I wonder what black South Africans think of Nigerians, Zimbabweans.. why the xenophobia, why such a violent reaction? People who i've asked never really elaborate on it....
Wolf
Sticking my neck out here, I would say black people are less considerate and less "slapgat" than the others when coming to people stealing their jobs and messing up their country.

Seems like a fair statement that. The rest of us are a tad too PC these days.

This is getting quite ridiculous:

Cape Town - Immigrant leaders in South Africa said on Monday that thousands of foreigners frustrated at miserable living conditions were on the point of retaliating against a wave of xenophobic attacks.

Tens of thousands of immigrants have been forced to take refuge at temporary shelters around the country after mobs began attacking migrants three weeks ago, killing at least 62 people.

"The tension is there, already, for a war," Deo Kabemba Bin Ngulu, a leader from the Democratic Republic of Congo, told reporters.

I can understand that the loss of life is unacceptable, but to enter my country illegally and to come and threaten me? I have two words for this person, one start with an "F". And i am sure that some of the people closer to the situation will not take kindly to this threat.
Nitro Guy
Perhaps he was referring to civil war VAL, the DRC is well known for that. i personally dont think its a threat. but each to his own
Surge
Reads to me as well more like a threat. The punctuation used implies this, but I would much prefer to hear what he said for myself. Even so though, if you are in the country illegally, then you should get out. Not that SA isn't to blame for the influx of (in particular) Zimbabweans, with Thabo's silent diplomacy approach to that crisis, as well as poor management of illegal immigrants.
FruitLoop
i think it would be best if these illegal immigrants just left but then i also know a couple of them and most of them are hard working and you have to feel sorry for them cos their here in a country where they are hated by almost everyone and still its better to them than their home countries sad.gif
