Hi I have a mk1 golf 87 model and 2004 14i motor I need to know how much the ecu goes for and the loom. Not sure if its mp9 system or if it came from a cti or city.com. biggrin.gif
rurounikenshin
The harness is around R1500 if you can find it.

An ECU can go for around R500 odd.

If the motor came from a .Com then it is an MP9 Fuel Injected motor, at 2004 I would say this is the case.

The motor from a CTi is a K-Jet, mechanical Fuel Injection motor, it would be from around the late 1980's to early 1990's.

Post pics of the motors and I will confirm for you.

Thanx for the advice I found a harness for 850 the full harness ecu for the same price, will add mor ics soon after the motor is in. Im going to kick both my friends asses they got 1.4i velocity's. I give it another month or two before she is done. She is more for looks than speed. Its still pretty much an empty shell. no engine in yet back seat is out and the tank, fuel pump and coil must be installed gonna do that saturday 17 may. iwant those plastic ach covers that the mk1 gti had. the scoop i can find , i tink goldswagen has that. Its a pity they stopping or stopped production of the city golf the city storm is their last model. thumbdown.gif  Mk1 rules

I Drive a 2007 MK1 1.8i Ltd edition (Silver :-)) and i think maybe its a better move they discontinued it. the cars are far overpriced. Also they lack safety features.... I'm an MK1 Fan and although i'd have liked to have seen VW improve the safety and build quality of the MK1, this simply would not be cost effective, from VW's point anyways.

Anywho, let me know where you get the wheel arches.... I also want them biggrin.gif hehe.

What your planned mods for the car Bud?
Kirsonic
Well she is mostly for looks I already haves the rims picked out. going to keep the car white and as little add ons as possible.
Want it to look original. Iwanna go for black and white leather seats black on the outside white inside of the seat. she was a 1.3 carb. will post pics soon as work goes on. Im getting the harnes end of the month. and maybe a dictator instead of ecu. still thinking bout that. rockon.gif

What would be the better choice a ecu or dictator system. What is cheaper?

[EDIT] POST MERGED

Going MP9 would be far easier and cheaper mate.

The .Com motor already has all the MP9 bits and pieces so all you need is the ECU and the Harness.
Take the ECU and get it Flashed and De-transpondered and bob's your uncle.

going Dictator will mean that you will have to pay for the unit (Like 3-4k) then pay for it to be installed and setup (Like 1-2K) then you'll need to have the thing dyno'd over and over again to get it right (Roughly R700 per run).

Take it from some one who's been struggling with aftermarket management for the last 2 years... it's a complete waste of time, money and energy.

Rather spend the money once and go MP9 than do what I did and go after market first then go MP9 once you realise that the aftermarket systems are crap and don't do what they are supposed to.

If I add up all the money I spent trying to sort out my aftermarket system I could've done a monster motor upgrade and MP9 conversion and I would still be saving money now.

If you're going for dictator then you won't need to flash the MP9 ECU biggrin.gif

It's a completely stand alone system.

BUT, make sure you go some where that knows how to tune it... or my warnings against aftermarket will make themselves painfully (and expensively) apparent.

As for racing... I seriously hope it's not street racing...

Ahhh rolleyes.gif lol.... come on RURO dont tell me you dont have a little TLGP every now and again...

EDIT:

Kisonic... what are the advantages of the dictator over other sytsems that you specifically want dictator... have you done your research?

In my most humble opinion it would be a bad move to choose a management system based on one opinion alone.

Perhaps it may be worth your to check out other common systems and weight them up against the dictator... if you plan on using the car for street use/daily drive then from what i've seen and researched most guys go MP9...

Why?

1) Reliability (the newer MK1's using them speaks for itself)
2) Easy availability (tuners and parts)
3) Fuel consuption Vs power output. From the research i've done it seems that the MP9 yields the most efficient fuel consumption to
power output.
(Look at Ruro's pathetic 300km to a tank for example.... VS the 680km to a tank on the similar MP9 2lt)

I'm sure Ruro will agree with this.

Obviously if you have more money than you can spend you wont give a damn about the above.... But if this is a street car and you are part of the"average" class ppl you may want to take heed Ruro's warnings....

Even if you dont care about the advantages of MP9 and want the extra few horses the aftermarket system COULD provide maybe it would definately be worth your while researching various other systems.

There's tons of info on the VWclub and speed and sound forums.

Good points Nitro Guy.

The most reliable aftermarket systems I've looked at over the last two years are:

1.) Diktator.
2.) Go-Tech.
3.) Mr Turbo.

Now, every aftermarket system is only as good as it's tuner. That being said, before choosing an aftermarket system find out who the most relaible tuner in your area is.

The reason most guys go MP9 is because it's a truly install and go system, the only settings you need to do are Cam and Distributor timing. Other than that, if the system has been installed correctly, that's it. You switch the car on and drive off.

No tuning hassles, no constant dyno hassles, no weird problems in the middle of no-where!

(If only I could find that damned Knock sensor).

Any way, I will never recommend Aftermarket Management to any one based on my negative experience over the last 2 years.
The systems above are consistently the most reliable and stable - assuming you have a tuner that knows what they are doing.

Be careful, because the cost of an aftermarket ECU plus the dyno tuning needed to get it running properly might end up being the same as buying and installing an MP9 setup, which you will only need to do once.

In my case this was true, had I MP9'd my car 2 years ago I wouldn't have had all the hassles and expense that I did and my project would probably be waaaaay closer to being finished.
