Westerns, they seem to be all the rage again and thats a good thing cos mostly they've worked (Jesse James, The Proposition) and this one falls somewhere inbetween.

It has the acting chops, Russell Crowe & Christian Bale, it has the looks and has the story (sort of). Ben Foster (Charlie Prince) delivers a very nasty sidekick who will jump of a cliff for his captain (Ben Wade, played by Russell Crowe btw).

Dan Evans (Christian Bale) is the man who gets to turn in Ben after he accidentally sees a robbery by Ben and his gang. Being the poor farmer he obviously takes the money and opportunity presented to him.

This Western is once again not about the gun-slinging but more about who these people were as personas. Dan Evans is a the tragic figure who gets alot of flack from his oldest son but he's gonna set things straight, Ben Wade is the coldhearted cowboy who somehow acts noble (I still do not understand his intentions) and Charlie Prince is just evil.

Like I said, I followed the film right untill the end but it raises some questions (for those who've seen it, you probably know which ones) which I do not have any 'valid' answers for.

Its still nice to see these actors together in a move (although Russell Crowe phoned in most of his perfomance) and the beautiful backdrops did not hurt either.

So thoughts on this by one?

8/10

I am not a huge fan of modern westerns, but I too did enjoy this flick.
