A friend of mine need a sound card, he uses it primarily to record. His main concern is that that it must produce a good clear record.
I understand it's for personal use only, can you recommend any cards?

creative xfi?
RenegadeNukes
Expensive

But they are good, if your onboard doesn't want to cut it
RustPuppet
Onboard will not cut it for recording purposes.

Get an X-Fi or grab an Audigy external unit.

I dont think I will buy a Creative card again soon. Their hardware is good, but support is lacking. My Audigy still doesnt have even half decent Vista support.

Thx all

my xfi runs beautifully in vista smile.gif

but ya support of creative is shocking sad.gif

the card is awesome EXCEPT when paired together with a NForce 4 board! BEWARE!
SLicK
Don't go for creative, you'll only end up shooting yourself in the foot due to lack of driver support.

I'd recommend the Asus Xonar.

You get two models, the PCI and PCI-E version.

Final Thoughts

To summarise, ASUS has entered the arena of PC audio with an impressive feature laden product that tries to cover a very wide spectrum of audio from recording/mastering, to surround media, to games; which is no mean feat considering the prices of even the most basic specialty solutions out there.

The Xonar has an impressive spec list for the market its intended for and features a plethora of connection possibilities no-matter what your requirement. On top of this, retail versions will feature a comprehensive software bundle to complement the hardware on the card.

It must also be made clear that there are cheaper options out there for gamers or movie buffs etc. who don’t wish to do it all and maybe are only light users, but someone wishing to buy one sound card that will theoretically handle all their audio requirements for years to come should make the Xonar a serious consideration.

I have sold one of these, and must say, It is a very nice sound card.

Please pm for updated pricing.

Thx for the info SLicK, did'nt know about this 1.

ya actually I use to struggle with drivers but for the most part of it... the xfi was a great product with the shittest support for driver developers!

They even went as far to stop a driver modder that created proper working drivers for VISTA! WTF?

My audigy works in the sense that the correct sound come out of all the speakers. No EAX, and the sound quality is lower. (Yes, i can hear the difference)

I'd go for anything but creative after this crap, there days are numbered if they want to give themselves such bad rep
Fishfly
laugh.gif warpath from a business perspective would you like to develop a product only for someone else to mod your product and ask for money from the public??? that effective means the other guy is doing the work and getting paid for a product you developed...

yes it was retarded of them to prevent him from modding the software, if I was creative I would have hired the guy to work as the driver developer! Creative has awesome sound cards but monkey developers... and now that article shows POOR business sense!
