Anyways, as fan of F1, I am pleased with the way the season looks thus far. BMW right up there in the Constructor's race so far, and Kimi and Lewis slagging it out for the Driver's.
Looks like another entertaining season is upon us, just like last season.

Nice to see a Ferrari one-two after such a long time! Surprisingly the Ferrari's did not dominate this race as the BMW's of Heidfeld and Kubica simply did not allow them to pull away into the sunset.
Well done to BMW for making this a 6 horse race! I hope they can continue in this vein of form.
Highlight of the race for me: Hamilton damaging his front wing after driving into the ear tyres of that Spanish prick Alonso!

Is it really that crappy to watch it at the track, Nukes? I would think that having a seat at the grand stand would give you more of a chance to see the cars zoom by.
Right, about the race, as an F1 fan, this is turning out great, with both the driver's and constructor's races being contested by three teams.
Ja, as a McLaren fan, heart sore. But Ron Dennis said that the true potential of the car will only be seen after Bahrain, so I shall wait and see. They did get slaughtered this weekend though.

Well, the 3 stopper worked pretty well for McLaren yesterday. And the title race is still looking hot. Pity about Kovalainen getting the early puncture, and wtf was up with the extra stop by McLaren. Could it have been avoided?
cyfermaster
May 12 2008, 01:03 AM
I think they did the extra stop on purpose to make sure they had backup for if Kimi was trying to overtake Lewis. Kovalinen would've then slowed down and then slowed Kimi down when they tried to lap him. If they had tried to do a 2 stopped like most of the other teams, then they would've been nowhere. They can't handle the soft compound tire. At least not at that track. In the end it proved to be a good tactic for them, but not a winning one. Wonder what the race would've been like if the ferraris did 2 stints on the harder compound? All in all I think it was a pretty boring race.
Imagine how dominant Kimi would've been if his front wing wasn't damaged...
Title race is looking good yeah. Specially since the next 2 tracks are meant to be McLaren tracks... Going to be interesting.

Well, when Lewis made that mistake and went into the barrier, I was kinda down, but hey, it paid off in the end.
Hard luck for Force India on not getting some points out of that race. A cruel case of being so close, yet so far...
So, with Kimi getting no points, we see Lewis move to the top of the ladder, with Kimi moving down to second, and Massa to third. Doesn't look very likely that a fourth horse is gonna be in this race, but who knows... It would be great of Kubica could join in the race.

That said though, congrats to Robert Kubica on his, and BMWs first win, AND first one/two! If there is a driver I would rather see win a race apart from Hamilton, it would be Kubica. Nick wasn't all too happy, but hey, Robert imo is the better driver right now, and deserved to lead the team to their historic win.
Who would have though that Kubica would be leading the championship? Damn I love this sport. As Murray walker used to say, "F1 is IF spelled backwards."

Not necessarily, cyfer.
It was a mistake by Lewis. A bad one, since it has now prejudiced him for the next race, apart from spoiling the race for others. What needs to be noted here is that he was looking at the cars in front of him, when he was in the pits, i.e. Kimi and Robert. When he saw them moving off, and he was still standing still, he decided to focus on THEM, and not ALSO on the lights at the end of the pit lane.
I think that the team is also to blame here, if they did not inform him that the pit was not open (which is very likely the case here, but I have not read up on the full race commentary), which would have had him being more cautious, AND focus on the pit lane lights, instead of his main rivals in front of him.
I would LOVE to hear the radio talk that occurred when the three front runners were in the pits.
cyfermaster
Jun 10 2008, 05:01 AM
Surely if he was watching the cars in front of him... he would've stopped in time?
Yes it was a mistake, his team might be to blame as much, if not more than him. That said though... If it is a safety car period surely the driver knows that he should keep an eye on the lights as well? You can't always rely on your team to tell you everything? Lewis. Watch the car in front of you it might stop cause the lights might go red.... Oh yeah, you might want to pick your nose while you drive down the pitlane too."

Well, check, when you are leading the race rather comfortably, and then an SC period comes and spoils that lead, and you have all this adrenaline pumping, and thoughts all over the place, it ain't that easy to remain focused. Don't get me wrong, I feel that Lewis did make a mess of things, but obviously he did NOT WANT to score no points for the race.

I dunno who the other dude is who drove into the back of Hamilton, and he is a tool too. I reckon that is what ruined Hamilton's race. If he didn't drive into the back of Hamilton, Hamilton may have been able to change his nose cone and then continue and perhaps get some points.

The good thing about Kubica leading is that BMW is gonna put up a good fight for the race. The track is more suited for the Ferraris though, and you can bet that they are gonna play really hard here, especially with Lewis getting the penalty.
It should be an interesting race, unless if Ferrari get the front grid, which would most likely see them scamper off into the distance.
Turning out to be quite the interesting season.

Jaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... I missed the first 30 minutes of the race due to a power failure, so I cannot really comment on Lewis's penalty, but from what the commentary team said, it seems pretty daft that he would take a place by jumping the chicane and not giving it back.
I think that he needs to just take a chill pill, and not let the media reports bring him down too much if he wants to have any chance of winning the title this year. 10 points behind in the driver's is not TOO far off, so just keep it together, Lewis.
That said, BMW were like nowhere this time around. Eish.

Well done to Honda for their first podium in ages. Not a "victory" to say that the car is great, but it did remind us of the genius known as Ross Braun.

Agreement:
* Lewis showed why he deserves his spot in F1 * Massa looked like a chop/n00b, and basically showed the world that it is more car than driver that had him leading the drivers championship * Rubens/Brawn - i am happy for them, at one stage they were lapping 4+ seconds ahead of everyone, clearly showing Ferrari how bad their mistake with Kimi was, he deserved better than what he got * Good on Beemer, their car appears to be getting better, which i am glad for since McLaren/Ferrari were starting to feel a little bit isolated at the top, now they have BMW to fear
All in all, a shit race to watch, but excellent drive from Nick & Lewis

Bad luck for both the championship leaders. Massa was really driving a classic race drive for himself there, but I guess the Ferrari engine is not as legendary now for its reliability as it used to be.

Well, yesterday's race COULD have gone down as one of those with an epic finish, buuuuuuuut then (presumably?) Ferrari had to step in like the whiny little punks they are...
Hamilton crossed the line first at Spa but was stripped of victory after stewards imposed a 25-second penalty on the McLaren driver.
The reclassified result strips the British driver's lead at the top of the world championship down to only two points with five races of the season remaining.
McLaren have confirmed they will appeal the decision.
Hamilton had been six points clear going into the Belgian race, which was to prove one of the most dramatic of the season.
He triumphed after a tumultuous cat-and-mouse chase to the line between him and Finnish driver Kimi Raikkonen, in which the Ferrari briefly span off the track on lap 42 of the 44-lap race.
The stewards' inquiry examined the incident which saw the pair collide after Hamilton made a move on entry into the circuit's Bus Stop chicane.
McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton
Stewards probed an incident on lap 42 between Hamilton and Raikkonen
That pushed the Briton on to the run-off area and he resumed in the lead.
He then let Raikkonen through, fearing an instant penalty from the race stewards.
However, on reviewing footage of the race they decided to punish Hamilton anyway.
Raikkonen later crashed out as the wet weather took its toll.
The effect of the stewards' decision meant victory was awarded to Ferrari's Felipe Massa, with Nick Heidfeld (BMW) promoted to second place and Hamilton falling to third.
I think that this is absolute bullshit! Hamilton let Kimi go right passed him on this, so why the big need for punishment on this? how many races have you not seen where this kind of thing has happened, and NO punishment was dealt out? F1 really is becoming a joke these days.
