I've seen them for sale at a couple places locally though. Games are way too expensive for it to be a viable option IMHO.

I have a DS which retails for about R1700 here in South Africa.
Games are actually not that expensive. The big title Nintendo ones (Mario, Nintendogs etc.) are the killers going for about R500 whereas the normal games studios have their games up for < R200.

In the U.S. they sell for $126 new. Used you could probably get a gen1 for about $99. Games are around $40 I believe.
