I have a adsl / network router combo that works as far I can tell. The problem is for some reason my sister's pc is unable to form a lan connection with the modem. I reckon it's some problem on the pc.
You open a dos box and type: "pconfig/release" and then : "ipconfig/renew". The problem is that the ipconfig won't renew.
The message I get is: "A error occurred while renewing interface local area connetion 2: an oppreation was attempted on something that is not an socket."
Windows cannot repair it because it cannot renew the ipconfig & to re install the network adaptor has no efect.
Any idea where I can look? Thx

never seen that before but have you tried replacing the network adapter?

use local area connection 1... I recall something like this happening to a machine at work. If I am not too busy at work tomorrow I will go ask one of the guys that dealt with it what he did to resolve it.

My isp dropped by & I had him look into it thx for the support.

are you administrator of the computer? sometimes users ain't allowed to renew

I have xp- pro on my computer & yes I'm the administrator. The problem started to dissapear bout the time we removed my password from xp. Still don't get that one, the password?
