hey there i have a '92 vw citi golf which i bought about a year ago it has given me very little problem that i have fixed but nothing really mechanical. Recently i started the car drove down the road and about 100m form my house it just died. and wont start again. i am not the most tech of people but i know my way around my car. the engine turns but does not start. i thought that i could be the fuel pump or lines that were blocked but they seem fine. so i was really sure that the ignition coil had gone so i replaced that and still the engine just turns and wont start. the battery is fairly new and all the spark plugs are new. i am fairly sure that the car is not getting spark. i also noticed that when the engine turns the rotar on in the distributer doesnt turn which i presume it should. thus i am thinking that it might be the timeing chain or cam belt... i am really at a loss and would really like to be able to fix it myself. please if any one can help that would be great.

It is definately the cam belt

I agree with Wolf.

I would check and make sure that the cam and dizzy timing is correct.
Also make sure that the cambelt maybe hasn't jumped a tooth.

Hope so too bud.

Valves aren't too expensive to replace on a Golf luckily.

Let us know the outcome.

Hi Guys

I recently cleaned my Carburettor and putted new parts on it…Drove my car for about 30 km and decided to park it. After 2 weeks the car was parked tried to start the car with no luck. The engine is cracking but the car doesn’t start. I changed the fuel pump and it still gives me problem, tried to jump start the car and the same problem. The car it’s a citi golf 2005 model 1.4 carburettor.. I believe that something is wrong on the carburettor because the battery, Fuel pump and air filter, spark plugs all are new.. Please help

First pull off a plug wire hold it close to an earth (any metal part on the engine) dont let it touch the metal ( andpreferably not yourself either) get some one to turn the starter and see if there is spark,

if there is spark present put the plug wire back, open the air cleaner and smell/or check for fuel (i wouldnt suggest using a match for that) if you turned the engine a couple of times you should be able to smell it, if there is a heavy fuel smell present the "needle& seat" may be stuck open, if no fuel smell is present one or more of the jets may be blocked.
