So, we are currently looking into buying / assembling a new system, to be used purely for video editting !
No games, no graphics, but taking footage from a camera, putting it onto a HDD, cutting, editting, etc etc etc whatever can be done with a movie and hups .. make a DVD.

I know that Mac would be a descent solution .. yes ... i realize that ... but for the sake of this topic, lets just say that we would go for a PC.

What would you guys recommend for me to take ? motherboard, CPU, mem, etc etc etc ... the complete setup, and more than that .. WHY would you go for these options.

Don't expect a reply straight away ... im going to bed now and by the time i will wake up, there will be no more power and god knows when its going to be switched on again.

Get a Mac and Final Cut Pro. And before the 'fanboy' comments start, bear in mind that the above setup is the industry standard for video editing for a reason.

What sort of level of professionalism are you after?

I did read. He asked for recommendations and I gave him one.

Based on my other comment regarding the level of professionalism required I think my option was quite relevant.

Other than that I can't comment too much on PC-based solutions other than a good quad-core CPU and tons of HDD space.

Back in the day something like a pinnacle video capture and editing card was a good idea, but with quad core cpus I wonder if it is still necessary?
Most applications for video editing would support quad core, thats about all advice I could give.

I wonder if Final Cut Pro is available on PC?
RustPuppet
No, Final Cut is an Apple product.

You're right Carrots, there are dedicated video editing cards but they're lank expensive and could probably be replaced with a good CPU anyway.
