I enjoy the US edition of the show and like to play along, but there are a few American questions that i don't know the answers to.
So i was looking forward to the South African edition of the show...that is until i saw those annoying little brats..er..kids, and that Sollie Philander is the host.

But i thought i could look past it and hoped the questions would be fun...boy was i wrong

Is it too harsh to say that SA is idiotic, moronic, half-witted and just plain dumb?
After watching the first ep, i would say no.

The first contestant, Monique, went out with the first question.
"How many legs does a pair of moths have?"
Wtf, i'm sitting there going "12 bitch", while she ponders on whether a couple could be 2
So what does she do? She uses a cheat and Peeks at the student's paper.
The student says 8, that's right, 8.
So naturally Monique also says 8 and she's out instantly.

Next we have Wayne.
Wayne is 55 and shows up in a school uniform, real mature, what's more is that he hands each student a suigstokkie. By this stage Wayne just looks like a bisexual pedophile.
Wayne gets the following question:
"How many sides does a large hexagon have?"
After a long debate with himself, finally realising that it doesn't matter if it's large or small it'll still have the same amount of sides, he comes to the conclusion that the answer is 8.
I start looking for my gun as Sollie informs Wayne that he is wrong. Luckily there is an 11 year old kid to save his incompetent ass, so he goes through. He gets further than Monique but also leaves with nothing as he got the following wrong:
"On the roadsign for children, which way are the kids walking"
Wayne argues they are walking left, because why would they possibly be walking right?
Yes Wayne, why would the kids be walking right, to the side which the road is on??

To top it all, they take ages to answer a question. And those annoying little bastards are so cocky and full of themselves. If my kids are like that i'm gonna give them up for adoption.

At the end the voice-over guys says something along the lines of 'tne in next time to witness all the drama' or some shit like that.
Drama? The only drama this show is going to experience is when i commit suicide

Cudos once again to the almighty and wonderfully magical, intellectual, enlightening, high standard world of South African television
I am oh so proud to be a South African, aren't you??

hmmm.... sounds like I was lucky not to watch this, or even record it.

Go figure that some people thought that the US version was intended as stand-up comedy

I tell you, you have to pass selection procedures where they only take the dumbest of the dumbest ...

How entertaining would it be if you would have an intellectual, answering all of the question right in a matter of minutes .. ?

I like the show ... i really do ... its one of those occasions where people are proud to show that they are stupid ..

After watching the first woman cop out so quickly on such an easy question....

I vowed that this will be another locally produced show that I will not be watching.

Agreed, i'll never make the mistake of watching that crap again ever.

Oh, and maxxdistri, i also like watching the Americans make fools out of themselves, but the SA version takes stupidity to a whole new level

In this case, we dont take about USA vs SA but about mankind :-)

Well, after reading the first post, I am glad that I did not bother watching this junk.

I prefer watching a game show that requires people to be quick on the button, and not drag out answers, AND have an annoying host in the mix to make things even slower.

I HATED just watching a few minutes of Deal Or No Deal. As I found the contestants and the host to be annoying.

Old school works for me. I would much rather see two or more people trying to beat each other out to answer the fastest (ala Jeopardy), then have one moron, who can even do basic arithmetic when it comes to counting the legs on two insects. (It's rather disgraceful that she could not answer such an easy question.)

I hate that show. Mostly for the host. He's annoying. Also it seems like there's a commercial every three minutes. No wonder the show is an hour long... YOU KEEP CUTTING TO CAR ADS!

Lame crap.
I'm giving up watching network tv.

I got to work on the SA Production of this show and would really suggest you watch it further. Being the first person on the first episode ever is really tough. The questions are not going to be easy, as they are playing for a million rand!

Give it another go! and imagine playing for a million when 6 Million people (figuring you are an idiot) is watching.

I personally love it and think it is developing into a really great show.

What would be better is if anyone could tell me what they would watch? Noot vir Noot?

I can think of a lot of other programs to watch. I haven't watched this yet, but based on what other people have said, then I can't see myself watching it when there are a lot of other things I would enjoy watching more. I would even watch show jumping. smile.gif

How hard can the questions be if a 5th grader is going to know the answers though?

A watced a bit of it Sunday evening, and I couldnt get the 1st 2 questions right :-p

When is youth day? (16 June)
What is the pilgrimage to Mecca called? (Hajj)

But then again, the fool supposedly has a Bsc degree (from Rhodes) and didnt pic any maths or science categories. Who has a Bsc degree and doesnt feel comfortable with 5th grade maths?

I think he got the 3rd question wrong... how many INLAND provinces are there in SA?
FruitLoop
this is one of the reasons i only watch stuff i have on my pc and avoid the TV at all costs. its frickin embarrassing watching South Africans on TV we seem so stupid and common puke.gif

sometimes i wonder if you can have a fatal episode after cringing so much laugh.gif
Paul

You can get caught off guard sometimes. They take questions from 5th grade text books, which sounds easy enough, but if I had to be asked, say, what is the capital of Niger, I would be stumped. sad.gif

i actually enjoyed watching the show the two times I did watch it... i dont think the kids are being cocky or are brats... they being kids and when kids are given attention they show off... and thats exactly what they doing....

and one or two of the questions that was asked.. i was stumped myself... and the only way I knew some of the other things was because I help my cousins with their 1st-6th grade homework...

I agree with Surge.. you do get caught off guard sometimes....

In my opinion, yes it is too harsh...So maybe I enjoy watching other people be idiotic? Or maybe I am just idiotic because I enjoy it? Who the frak cares? Think what you want... So far I enjoy the show and will most likely watch it again if i remember to and if i'm not too busy...

and now i officially have that theme song in my head for the rest of the day! tongue.gif

I suspect the children are receiving some serious coaching from the parents who want them to be noticed and put in a TV advert...
