Grindhouse's "Machete" to Get His Own Feature Film

Even though the Tarantino/Rodriguez gorefest that is Grindhouse won't be out until next month, it appears we've already got some info on a straight-to-DVD spinoff.

Anyone who saw the original teaser for Grindhouse was no doubt intrigued by a short clip concerning a character and film called Machete: "He knows the score. He gets the women. And he kills the bad guys." Machete, played by Danny Trejo (Desperado, From Dusk Till Dawn, and pretty much every other Rodriguez movie except El Mariachi), basically spends thirty seconds chopping up bad guys, making out with naked chicks, and flying through the air on a gatling-gun-equipped motorcycle.

According to CinemaBlend, what started out as a mere fake trailer for Grindhouse is now going to become a straight-to-dvd solo flick. Evidently, this tidbit was released by Rodriguez himself, who spoke of it as if it was already a done deal.

To be frank, the two most potentially awesome movies of the past month or so (300 and Hot Fuzz) were somewhat disappointing. It's up to Rodriguez and Tarantino's Grindhouse to make this a summer to remember – if we can get some DVD spinoffs from it, even better.

I know this news is a couple weeks old, but: fucking sweet! I was lank excited when I saw the 'trailer' before Planet Terror so I'm keen to see how they flesh it out into a full flick.
