Sweet mate!
How much $ for the Duke Nukem3D and Quake 1?
I am assuming that the Win32 version will run on Windows XP?
Hehe, I have a copy of Splinter Cell 1 if you'd like?

Sheesh, somebody that still has Q1. Impressive!
Out of interest Val, you got the GLQuake.exe file?

Surely some of these are abandonware by now? Or being offered as free downloads?
I could swear I remember seeing games like Dark Reign and Ground Control being offered for free.

Yep, but i don't know if it works. Using Winquake rather which i have found to be stable and takes very nice res.

Right so back to the Nostalgia!
Still looking for Dark Reign and also Blood (Full Version pref.) Also wouldn't mind Quake 2 and the soundtrack for Quake 1 (NIN).
I have an original copy of Splinter Cell to trade for another original game(s).

Well, installed ShadowMan last night.
Gotta say I have mixed feelings about playing this game again. Hehe.
The control system is HORRIBLE and the characters look awkward and gaunt. No free mouse look, although I've read some where that this can be added via a console command.
For what it's worth, it's fun to play though.
I am playing on a much better graphics card than when I originally played the game so it looks really good (for the 1998 - 2001 period). Infact, overall the spec of this Legacy machine is about 3x what I orignally started playing games on, which might account for the added enjoyment and smoothness.
Specs of Legacy machine:
AMD AthlonXP 1800+ 512MB RAM 40GB H.D.D Nvidia G-Force 2 64MB (I was chuffed when I found tis card, brings back many memories of LAN's and gaming all nighters - I was even more chuffed when I found some updated drivers for it on some of my back up discs!!!) WIN98 SE
I gotta say, playing the old games again is really fun.
I was smiling during the Win98 install, went by with out a hitch and I had all the drivers ready months before switching on the machine. It feels weird to run Win98 Machine that isn't blue screening or locking up. Hehe.
I am keeping things simple on the machine. Base OS with only the games installed. I won't join this to my home network and it will never see the internet. Although I have loaded AVG Free Edition onto it, just in case.
Hehe.

This is exactly the reason I don't play my favourite old school games again.
They'll never be as great as when you first played them and all the crappy eye-candy-fests that are most modern games make you realise how primitive your old faves actually were, thus tainting the happy memories.
That being said, I'm finding a lot of little console gems that I never played back in the day to be a welcome relief from the lack of decent titles at the moment.
Any luck finding more titles Scott? I have a backup copy of Blood somewhere (original was swiped by a 'friend') if you don't come right

this makes me want to install a Win98 machine. I don't have a machine, so will see if VM will allow me to install a Win98 "machine". VM's FTW!! hehe.

Feb 12 2008, 01:55 AM
Yeah, I also setup a VM machine running Win98 on my main machine at home.
That also went really well except that the ATI drivers for 98 aren't so great. Kept having clipping problems and system crashes on the VM machine. VW Machines are handy sometimes!
I was lucky to have enough components lying around to build up this Legacy machine. I bought my self a new DVD writer so I used my old one for the Win98 machine.
Didn't know that it's impossible to get CD-ROM's these day, silly me.
Valheru if I don't come right I might be buying you some more beer, same place?
I'll let you know.
