I logged on to V9 via my cellphone and was amazed at how long it took pages to load with all the avatars and signatures. While members can disable both of these it is somewhat of a nuisance to guests who have to wait while sigs almost a MB in size are downloaded.

Yes yes, I know it isn't much to most of us but there are still people who use dial-up or mobile Internet access. Besides, there is no real reason to have a whopping Flash animation as either your avatar or sig. Scouring through member profiles I see there are a fair number of these monsters.

Thus, I've decreased the sig size limitation to 300kb from the ridiculous 1mb size. Avatars are still the same at 130kb with dimensions of 125x125.

You are also still allowed Flash and such. Oh, and text is also your friend

On a related front the adblock plugin for firefox 2 allows you to cancel out images so if anything bugging you - you can choose to remove it

This is not directed at LoM or anyone else in particular. Yes, LoM, you were one of the offenders, but there were a bunch of sigs that I found which were just ridiculous so this is nothing personal.
