1. Please state what ethnicities are mostly associated with these roles. Including their gender, and appearance:

- A martial arts professional - Asian
- A gangster - european, eastern european
- A lawyer - caucasian , tall
- A terrorist - Middle eastern
- A prostitute - Blonde caucasian for a high class call girl and a black woman for the low class 50 bucks a blowjob kind
- A corner shop owner - persian, pakastani, indian
- A private school student - caucasian, blonde, athletic

2. Do you think people of ethnic minorities are portrayed with positive or negative stereotypes? Please state your reasons.
Not all stereotypes are negative, take the stereotypical asian kung fu master, he normally kicks ass for the right reason

3. Why do you think filmmakers find it necessary to use stereotypes in films?

If they didn't people would not relate to the non stereotyped actors.
a short, black, female lawyer just would not cut it
a fat, balding, middle aged man would not cut it as an action hero

4. Do you enjoy films with stereotypes?
I cant say I do and I cant say I dont.
This question is posed as though asking do you enjoy the movie BECAUSE of the stereotypes, well if thats the case no, I like a movie that is cast with the correct people in the correct roles and if that means typecasting stereotypes, so be it.
I want to watch a movie for it's entertainment value, not because it's politically correct.

i can only answer on point 3)

--> Because this is what movies are all about.

Just imagine ... a movie about the war in Iraq ... and upon arrival .. the Iraqis have been replaced by Chinese people ... to break the stereotype of islam and war .. that would be ridiculous

A movie about illegal organized fights in a Russian jail complex ... where all the inmates are black .. to break the stereotype of Eastern European and Russian criminals ... would be ridiculous

A movie about 9/11 where the hijackers are now hispanic ... to break the stereotype of muslim/terro ...

The word "stereotype" is highly overrated in these cases ... its not because the movie shows a sensitive subject that one has to play the stereotype card ... its still a movie .. .and if you feel offended by it ... than the only one with a problem is you ...

1. Please state what ethnicities are mostly associated with these roles. Including their gender, and appearance:

- A martial arts professional - Asian, looking like Pai Mai (or however it's spelled) from kill bill 2.
- A gangster - Hispanic for modern day gangster. Looking like that nasty looking mexican guy.
- A lawyer - tall, dark haired white guy, black suit. Sortoff like Al pachino.
- A terrorist - Arab.
- A prostitute - Same as paul: Blonde caucasian for a high class call girl and a black woman for the low class 50 bucks a blowjob kind
- A corner shop owner - Portuguese, pakistani, greek etc.
- A private school student - Rich spoiled white guy with a million dollar smile and attitude to match.

2. Do you think people of ethnic minorities are portrayed with positive or negative stereotypes? Please state your reasons.
Not negative or positive. Stereotypes exist for a reason.

3. Why do you think filmmakers find it necessary to use stereotypes in films?
Believability

4. Do you enjoy films with stereotypes?
Yes. I especially enjoy comedies with stereotypes. The black guy with the big bucket of KFC. The white trash of My Name is Earl just being all white-trashy. The typical dutchmen Freestate farmer of that Toyota add (before he gets the makeover).

1. Please state what ethnicities are mostly associated with these roles. Including their gender, and appearance:

A martial arts professional - Chinese or Japanese
A gangster - Black or Hispanic or Italian
A lawyer - White dude in a fancy suit.
A terrorist - Middle Eastern Muslim (watched too much news after 9/11 tongue.gif), or a Russian
A prostitute - White or black woman
A corner shop owner - Greek, Portuguese, Indian
A private school student - White dude(tte)

2. Do you think people of ethnic minorities are portrayed with positive or negative stereotypes? Please state your reasons.

Negative, as in if you watch a movie about gangs in LA, you are likely to see Hispanic or Black gangsters. You hardly see white gangs brought to light in movies - in particular low-level gangsters.

3. Why do you think filmmakers find it necessary to use stereotypes in films?
Too lazy to think up new ideas. tongue.gif

4. Do you enjoy films with stereotypes?
I enjoy good films... period.
