I'm tired of sitting at home,. enjoying an evening watching a movie, television program, mini-series, or infomercial when all of a sudden my relaxation time is rudely (and I mean rudely) interrupted by some advertisement for some new book. Books are terrible! They're ancient technology. We have so many newer, faster, and more electrical (better) ways of getting our entertainment, someone needs to let these publishers know that it's not 1850 anymore, upper-class women get their smut online, like everyone else. Books take forever, too, you can't just flip open a book to exactly the page you want, you can't even be certain that the page you want is in the book you're holding! As far as entertainment value goes, I give gooks a score of .02. Out of one million. And that's being generous. What can I get from a book that I can't from a videogame or movie? Can I kill russian terrorists in a book? No, all I can do is read about how some other guy did. If I wanted to do that, I'd watch the History Channel, so I will, and I won't even have to read. With books, there's no visuals, only letters and paper, which brings me to another point. Isn't paper use bad? From all the talk, we're running out of paper, and I think we need to save as much of it as we can for toilet tissue, because I'm not going to go french and get a bidet. I'll clean my own butt, thank you. (squeaky clean)
When books start providing me with interactivity, visuals, so I don't have to make them up on my own, and important life lessons like in Die Hard, then I might give them a second chance, but the way it stands, I'm against everything book-like (especially books) right Now. (not now, but then)

I have seen NO book which does not exceed the entertainment value of the movie that was based on it.
The only movie which came close to providing the entertainment value of the book as LOTR. And it wasnt even that close.

Books are GREAT. They do take a long time, and thats why I avoid them... Work is so much less fun when you've been up reading till 3AM the previous night.

Books are the shit! Yeah, they take longer than watching a movie, but thay also offer so much more (info) than a movie or documentary ever could. Plus books stimulate the imagination, because of the lack of visuals.

Yes you could watch the history channel for the 'social propaganda' as presented by some foreign production company. You could watch a movie and passively absorb a barrage of special effects and blood and guts, and be entertained by the extravagant visuals that seem to be all everyone is interested in making anymore.
That seems to me too much like an impatient need for instant gratification.

Although movies do have their place in my house, we have far more books than movies.

How is that going to save me time? I still get the feeling that this is a piss-take, Logovanni is making people reply quite deftly with this seemingly contemptuous attitude.

I have to say that reading far exceeds movies any day of the week. There are so many unique stories out there that can captivate you much more than the garbage on TV. It may be that reading involves more of a commitment of time, but when I have come across an amazing novel, I can't even imagine TV or movies holding a candle to it, and I have read more than a couple. I suppose this is partially due to the fact that I read about 3-4 books a week, but I have always found this to be true. Perhaps my view also comes from the fact that I see TV as just this overused lazy form of entertainment made for the masses, no wonder the US has so much ignorance, everybody is just watching TV wasting their lives away...

I have to disagree. (It's my obligation) I am NOT wasting my life sitting in front of the TV. (Now sitting behind it, that's a different matter.) I am taking part in the comsumer-driven market of America. People are getting paid because of me. If it weren't for me watching that TV, some lucky non-union production industry employee wouldn't be able to buy that drink for the potential mother of his children. (Taking applications, serious requests only)And where are you getting this idea of ignorance from? If America was ignorant, then people wouldn't find brilliant humor in such masterpieces as Epic Movie and Bewitched. 100,000 Americans can't be wrong.
