Researchers Knock Out HIV

ScienceDaily (Oct. 21, 2007) — With the latest advances in treatment, doctors have discovered that they can successfully neutralise the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The so-called ‘combination therapy’ prevents HIV from mutating and spreading, allowing patients to rebuild their immune system to the same levels as the rest of the population.

To date, it represents the most significant treatment for patients suffering from HIV.

Professor Jens Lundgren from the University of Copenhagen, together with other members of the research group EuroSIDA, have conducted a study, which demonstrates that the immune system of all HIV-infected patients can be restored and normalised. The only stipulation is that patients begin and continue to follow their course of treatment.

If this is completely true it'll be revolutionary, although this isn't the first time we've seen 'cures' for HIV which end up being flops somewhere down the line.

Opinions?

If it actually does work, then i would say that it's great. But it could turn out to be just like all the other treatments they've come up with. I hope that scientists will continue on with the research and studies of this treatment.

I think they should have tested it first before speading the word,People are desperate. You dont wanna keep they hope only t o find out that it is a total flop. crying.gif .Is there atleast one prove that it does really work! wounded1.gif .

Yeh, although things like this give hope to people who are already suffering with the disease that a cure might be found, and possibly give them more of a reason to carry on...

Hopefully it will be affordable to the masses.
Pisces797
That's probably going to be the biggest issue, the cost. The treatments they have now aren't all that affordable and of course health insurance only covers so much.

Cure for those who can afford ,if you are less fortunate, hard luck. whistling.gif

And the government can only do so much, but then again i dont think there is much the government can do.Unless to tax us even more tongue.gif so that even the poorest person can affaord it ermm.gif

I might be mistaken but this sounds a lot like the Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART) already in use all over the country. Which takes a while but is capable of doing most of the same things, but not stopping spread...hmmm...

Wonder if Manto can get us some... tongue.gif

This will be a miracle if they can get it to work properly

I just hope it will work and also be easily accessible and ready for the masses, particularly in India and Africa where it is needed asap
