It has finally dawned on the US military that that a combat zone is no place for a humvee. Little things like armor and the fact that the humvee has zero mine protection.

Now the American generals started to look for a replacement and where do they go, South Africa.
The SA Armed forces has bout 40 years knolage of how to make a vehicle mine resistant.

Enter the RG-31 Nyala. A armored car build by Bea Systems: Land Systems in SA.
The American military calls it the RG-31Charger and it seems it's a instant hit, you can ride over a anti tank mine and expect to survive.

The news article I red claimed that the US special forces bought 309, the army want 94 and 600 for their mine resistant ambush protected vechiles.

The Canadians have been using the Mamba variant for some time. I think there might be several other armed forces using this range of vehicles in conflict zones including Iraq and Afghanistan.

END!

I remember reading something in Beeld long ago about the US armed forces using South African designed vehicles. Some seriously awesome stuff.
