Whilst the Weinstein’s try and decide whether or not they’re actually going to do the long-talked-about film version (doubt it’ll ever happen), “Bourne Identity” director Doug Liman has actually gassed up his version and inked a deal to bring K.I.T.T back to TV.

NBC have agreed to pick up the new Liman-produced “Knight Rider”, greenlighting a two-hour pilot for a possible series. It’ll air as a telepic sometime later this year. Depending on how the telepic fares, the show could be on air as early as next fall.

According to Variety, Dave Andron ("Raines") is writing the pilot script and will serve as supervising producer alongside exec producers Liman and Dave Bartis ("The O.C.," "Heist") for Universal Media Studios and Dutch Oven Prods.

Though it’ll again focus on a Michael Knight-ish hero and his talking car, the new series will explore the idea of "evil" cars.

"Knight" originally aired on NBC from 1982 until 1986, with Davis Hasselhoff playing smooth crimefighter Michael Knight. A spinoff skein, "Team Knight Rider," aired in syndication during the 1997-98 season.

Cool.

To me, that is uncool actually. Evil cars? What's gonna happen here, K.I.T.T playing chicken with these evil cars, and they see whose paint job gets damaged first?

Wonder who's gonna play the lead. Ashton Kutcher? He is hoffish enough i think.

Some things should just stay in the 80's.

That Team Knight rider was a load of utter bollocks!

There were other KITT type cars in the show that were bad, so that really isn't any thing new.

Nothing is complete without teh Hoff!

Correct.

KITT's original proto-type (KARR) was a malevolent version of KITT.
He even looked the same with the exception of a two tone paint job with gold trim.

Then there was Goliath, a huge black truck which was developed by a rival company using either KITT's or KARR's schematics and technology.

IIRC Goliath actually "killed" the original KITT by pushing him into a pool of Toxic waste.

Psycrow
Do they know who is gonna do the voice for KITT?

Nope, because nothing has been set in stone... yet.
Psycrow
KITT should be done by Christopher Walken... I'd watch just to hear him curse about the turbo boost...
flaco46
Christopher Walken is too cool to be KITT, it needs to be another effeminate voice that sounds like he is talking down to everyone, like the original.

Agreed.

But Christopher Walken would be good for one of the "bad" cars.

Maybe even Dennis Leary?

Hehe.
flaco46
I like that idea, C.W. would be a great bad car voice. Dennis Leary as KITT, all I would be thinking of would be him singing "I'm an asshole."

Looks like there is a new Hoff in town...

Seems Michael Knight and K.I.T.T weren’t an item after all – or maybe they were, and this kid will eventually grow mag wheels? – with the very human-looking Justin Bruening announced as playing ‘Son of the Hoff’ on the new “Knight Rider” series today.

Bruening will play the son of Michael Knight, the fluffy-stomached leather-clad crusader of the popular 1980s series. From all indications, it seems David Hasselhoff won’t be invited back to cameo.

As the trades point out, Bruening’s casting is reminiscent of Hasselhoff’s when he did “Knight Rider” – both come from Soap backgrounds (The Hoff with “Young and the Restless”, Bruening with “All My Children”). Eventually, Bruening will release an album that only Germans will buy.

Steve Shill is directing the new two-hour telemovie that will hopefully – if the network lies the telemovie and it rates – path the way for a series. Something smells very “Bionic Woman” about this one…. But ya never know, we could have the next “Battlestar Galactica” on our hands.

As long as they keep this, hey?.....
