‘’Transformers’’ producer Don Murphy seems dead-keen to do a follow-up to the robots-in-disguise offering, but because of this strike – I hear heaps about it from Clint, but I don’t quite understand it, what’s it all mean? If I’m asked to replace Sharon Stone for “Basic Instinct 3” I have to turn it down? – doesn’t know whether it’s possible. At least not for a couple of years.
Murphy tells readers on his message board that “For those of you most anxious about TRANSFORMERS 2, the silence you hear is primarily because people are fretting about a presumed strike in June 2008. Will it happen? I don’t know- does the public care about strikes anymore in this day and age? What do rich people have to strike about anyway? I don’t have any side here ( you hear about the writers and the Producers but that actually means the STUDIOS) I just think stopping work is kind of pointless. But since no one wants to be filming IF a strike happens, everything needs to be done filming by the end of May 2008. So this is affecting the lack of news about Transformers 2 at least for now. Stay tuned.”
I don’t know what they’d do for a “Transformers 2” – one thing’s for sure, I bet they’ll have a new cast, because most of the folks in this one are so forgettable and there roles were so small (does anyone even remember Jon Voight or Tyrese Gibson in this movie?) that it’d make no sense extending their arcs.
Well, "a presumed strike in June 2008"? At least the Americans know how to plan these things WELL in advance.
A TOTALLY NEW cast? No Megan Fox? That would be just wrong!

They definately do know how to plan ahead. And I don't think that they would have a totally new cast. It would make sense to keep a few of the actors that had slightly bigger roles. Not that many of them did. I'm just interested to know what kind of a story line it will have.

Release date confirmed...
QUOTE
Source: Box Office Mojo
Despite a recent comment from Transformers director Michael Bay that the studio hasn't been going full speed ahead on a sequel because of the possible strike next year, Paramount Pictures has now set a June 26, 2009 release date for Transformers 2. It is unclear who all will return for the sequel, as far as crew and cast members. Hopefully we'll know more soon.
Well, hopefully soon indeed.. WITH Megan Fox confirmed for the sequel.

Should be worth a look.
Wonder what's going to happen in the sequel seeing as both the All Spark and Megatron were destroyed.

Shia LaBeouf is expected to return to the sandpit to play with the robots again for “Transformers 2”, which Variety mentioned has been earmarked for a June 26, 2009 release.
As the trade states though, there’s a battle of wills between DreamWorks' David Geffen and Steven Spielberg and leadership at Paramount conglom Viacom that may see that date change.
Michael Bay is also expected to return for the sequel. And yes, it will be released on DVD in both HD and Blu-Ray. Maybe.
Great, now they just need to sign Megan Fox up, and all is good.

Writers have been confirmed:
QUOTE
Screenwriter Ehren Kruger and the writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are in talks to team to write the screenplay for DreamWorks/Paramount's Transformers 2, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Director Michael Bay, star Shia LaBeouf and producers Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Don Murphy are back in their respective chairs, as is executive producer Steven Spielberg.
The trade adds that the teaming of A-listers to write such a huge project might be an industry first and could have been necessary because Kurtzman and Orci -- who wrote first movie -- also are busy writing J.J. Abrams' Star Trek movie for Paramount and producing Eagle Eye for DreamWorks.
The three writers are also working together on Nightlife, a DreamWorks serial-killer project that sees Kruger adapting a Thomas Perry novel, with Kurtzman and Orci producing along with Neal Moritz. Kruger also adapted the Stephen King novel "The Talisman," which Spielberg is exec producing for TNT.
Kruger met with Bay and Hasbro president Brian Goldner and impressed the duo with his knowledge of the "Transformers" mythology.
But still no confirmation of Megan.

Forget about just one sequel, two more are in the pipeline!

Today at a Paramount presentation of the new Transformers HD DVD, Peter Cullen said you will be seeing, or rather hearing more of him.
"I've been led to believe that there is going to be two more that I know of," Cullen told Superhero Hype!.
When we asked if he was attached to voice Optimus Prime again, he simply said with a smile, "yes."
The first Transformers hits DVD and HD DVD on Tuesday, October 16!

Two more Transformers. I don't know how they're going to do that. I could see them doing one, but not two. Should be an interesting turnout.

As long as they don't ruin like other sequels. The first one was awesome (and it comes out tomorrow!) and it will be tough not to trash it. Well, we will see how they do soon enough.

urm if you remember transformers was a anime series.... and you think that hollywood isn't going to milk this cow for all it's cash... you are going to be mistaken, I think we'll most likely see a transformer 3-6 or so
personally if they want to do sequals and the likes it's fine with me... BUT don't create shit that drags on to more shit!

I wish they would feature "The Ark" which brought the Autobots to earth.
Apart from being their base of operations it was the main repair facility aswell.
I believe that the Decepticons ship was almost entirely destroyed when it entered earth's atmosphere. (In the timeline of the original series that is).
Megatron tried to capture the Ark many times to escape earth and return to their homeworld Cybertron and conquer it.
But seeing as they killed Megatron in the first movie I don't know what they are going to do in any sequel.
Unless Star-Scream takes over as leader of the Decepticons.
I dunno, what they are gonna do.

But do you REALLY think that they won't bring Megatron back for the second one? I reckon they will. The baddies not being led by him would just not be the same.

He'll more than likely be repaired somehow.
Starscream never was a very charismatic leader.

They almost have to bring Megatron back. Without him there really wouldn't be a bad guy leader. That's why I was kind of surprised to see him destroyed at the end of the first one. But if you watch through the credits a bit, you see one of them fly off into space.

Heh. Never knew about that. Seriously though, they need to stop with easter eggs at the end of the movies. Who REALLY wants to sit through the credits waiting for a few seconds of footage to show?

I have a feeling that Megatron will get repaired in a captured Ark at some point.
In the comics and the animated series the Ark was able to repair Autobots and Decepticons completely.
It was able to revive Optimus Prime on more than one occasion until he was eventually killed by Megatron (Although Megatron was also mortally wounded in the same fight, he was kicked out of the Decepticons shuttle by Starscream and left to die adrift in space).
Megatron was revived by Unicron to become Galvatron shortly there after, I can't remember how Optimus Prime was revived though.
flaco46
Oct 17 2007, 05:58 PM
That was from Transformers: The Movie. Optimus wasn't revived, but Hot Rod was upgraded to Rodimus Prime and took over as the leader for the Autobots. They could always use Unicron in the next movie though, that would be cool.
Kind of off topic, but why the hell did Bumblebee look like Hot Rod? Bumblebee was of course a VW Beetle, not a Camaro. And I remember Spike hanging out with Hot Rod all the time, not Bumblebee. But I guess that's what they do when they transfer comics and old cartoons to movie, jack it all up.

Yeah man. I was also cheesed off about that.
Bumble Bee was a 1976 Beetle (with the split rear window - useless trivia FTW!).
There were a number of avenue's where artistic license was used.
Megatron for example looked ridiculous to me.
But the audiance enjoyed it so I guess they had to "modernise" the characters for todays movie goers.
Can you believe that there are people here at my client who have never heard of the transformers before this movie? They had no idea there was an animated series or movie before this latest one?
It's this group of people that the new movie and the sequels are catering for.

Has anyone else heard about them making a movie based upon the cartoons Voltron?
