COEO1st
I just recently got a new HP Laptop (dv9482nr see here for specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documen...691&lang=en) and I'm having a reoccurring problem. It's running vista home premium, if I keep the power settings set to high performance with the monitor set to never turn off or have the laptop never go into sleep mode, it'll freeze at random intervals. At first I thought it was the laptop its self having problems, but then I asked a friend who also recently got a new laptop (made by a diff manufacturer) he has the same problem. This makes me think that it's a Vista issue. If anyone else is having similar problems or any insight into this, responses would be greatly appreciated.

Hey COEO1st. Welcome to the forums. Sorry to hear you having a problem with your machine though. I have done very little research on this issue, but it does seem that this problem is related to the PCI IDE Driver. Try updating this driver. You could choose to re-install the driver, and then make windows automatically check for a newer version, or you could try find a downloadable driver for Vista.

Hope this helps.

Howdy mate,

I've been running Vista Business on my Dell Latitude D620 with out any problems what so ever.
I think that the problem you're experiencing is more related to the Hardware/drivers than Vista itself.

What brand is the other machine? (For interests sake?)

Did the machine come pre-loaded with Vista Home or did you install it?

I would try what Cyfermaster suggests first and see what happens.

Please let us know what the outcome is.
