We've been looking at a few new skin options for the forum, but we want some input from the members as to what they like.

If you have any ideas please post a small preview pic of the skin in this thread, as well as a download link so we can test it out.

IMHO I'm quite partial to the attached ones: the first is basically an enhanced version of the default skin, and the other is a nice clean green one.

Ideally i think we should stick to something subtle, so that we don\'t ruin the easy on the eye interface that the vault has.

I like the first one Nukes' posted. Its a subtle enhancment of our current blue skin. It will give us a good look without completely changing the board

Depends how many people would vote I suppose: no good if only three people vote and we end up with a crap skin.

It'll probably come down to a couple of options in this thread and then the staff will make a decision. We can then give the skin a test run.

BTW the first one in Nuke's post is ok but a bit hazy to me. Personally I don't want to move too far away from the original (hence my first option): we don't want another Tech Vault on our hands

Your first option rusty, i reckon is too dreary and would work well if we were the official forums of allied steel manufacturing etc.

I'd say the current one is better than any of the ones posted for the simple reason that it has a range of complementary but discrete colours. The ones posted are either too different, in the case of each of your second ones, or too flat in colour depth in the first ones.

I'm with RevQ on this one. I still like the current one better than all of em



My idea, let everyone stick down whatever they want, then let the staff shortlist it down to less than 10 (pref 5) options. Then we can have a vote

If we are going to change the skin. Why not do a new look and change it completely.

The enhancement idea is a bit skewed as the stuff we can find is so similar that we might as well just stick with our current skin.

remember folks, we have the ability to allow you to choose your own skin.

n other words, if we have 3 skins loaded, you can set your preference to any of them.

However something to note to everyone, users and staff alike.

Every skin will need to be customised to include every single plug in and enhancement we have added.

IPB does not come standard with a shoutbox, member history and all the cool features which we have as extra, all need to be included or amended with every skin as the skin files call the functions of the new features.

Some php coding is required to make them work.

What's wrong with the current one?

We have had skins before in the very distant past, and they were all customised to the board and looked great, BUT no one ever used them to my knowledge.

They were almost a complete waste of time for the poor guys who did all the coding to implement them.

I have no problem whatsoever with the skins idea, and if people are genuinely interested in them, then there will be some value in trying it again, but...
Personally, I wont change, I love this current skin simply because it has always been this skin. All the way back to the day I joined, this has been my favourite.

A skin chooser is nice - i think one of the main reason why people think that a change is needed is because we look like most ipb board

My main reason for wanting another option for skins is to give us a different look to the majority of the other IPB boards out there. It just makes us stand out as an individual forum.

But as Paul said, there will have to be some tweaks before we can implement one, if we choose to do so.

I'll play around on the test board and see if this is all worthwhile.

Right, I'm going to be testing a couple skins over the next few days so don't be surprised if things look a little different when you log in.

For now it's a grey version of the default one: seems to be cool apart from the SB not appearing on the main page and the group icons need to be sorted, but otherwise it has all functionality.

Post some feedback here or post some links to skins you'd like to nominate for testing.

I like the addition of new skins - gives more choice to the users.

Me though, I shall stick with the default blue - for psychological reasons.

I've set the default skin as Tronic Blue for now, but you can still switch to the default blue and grey ones at the bottom of the screen.

I need Creation or docmoo to make some changes to get it to display properly, as well as the group icons for that skin.

hmmm.. there is something about the tronic blue that is not right... its a nice overall look and feel but yeah.. its... its.. missing that refined look (if that makes sense?).. i dont know how else to describe it

the enhanced one looks like one of those blog themes which i'm sure is not the look the v9 admin geniuses/allstars are going for...

so yeah.. i still like the old one...
