Hi

I am trying to figure out if i need any fans installed on my new PC. I am a first time builder and still in the phase of collecting hardware

I have

Case ATX Mid-Tower ULT31795

Motherboards IP35-E ATX

CPU (Processor) Intel core duo 2 E6750

Graphic Cards/Video Cards 512 MB

Modem s 56k / V.92 Internal S20-03 Sterling V.92 PCI Softmodem

Memory 2GB (2x1GB) PC26400 crucial - CT2KIT12864AA80E DDR2 800Mhz 240-pin DIMMs

Software (O/S) Vista Home OEM (Pending)

Hard Drives 200 GB ATA Maxtor L01P200 200GB 7200RPM 8MB

Mouse Microsoft

Keyboard Microsoft

CD/DVD-ROM/DVD Writer 16 DVD +/- DL Writer idvd16dd

Power Supply Coolmax V-500 V 500 500 W with 120 mm fan

120 mm fan Pending

80 mm fan Pending

Do I need any 80mm or 120mm fans?

How many? ( case manual says it supports 2 80mm fans but i had read somewhere that it will also support an additional 120mm fan)

3 pin or 4 pin ? (Motherboard instruction says it will support 3 pin or 4 pin CPUFAN, but it also has other connectors like sysfan and 2 auxfans)

any suggestions?

You will need to have case fans regardless.
System temp is going to be out of control otherwise.

Always use that what is supported - if it takes 2x 8cm + 1x 12cm put both
{This is my belief on the matter}

Just consider volumetric capability vs. noise.
And decide if you're going to have a High / Equal pressure system.

On connectors:
I've not encountered a 4 pin cpufan header before (and I'm not saying that there are not out there)
Most aftermarket cpu HSF uses a 4pin Molex for juice and a single cable (speed sense) to the motherboard)

Use the other fan headers if you want or just connect the case fans to molex.
But I doubt you'll find a 12cm fan with a 3 pin header.

Anyhow
Enjoy - I still remember my first from scratch build - way stressful (but worth it)

Also keep another 2 things in mind:

1. Hot air rises
2. It's as important to get the hot air out as to get cool air in

All the best,
