The devoloping world is moving pretty damn fast through the devolopment phases as they try and catch up with the rest of the devoloped nation. Natural resuources, cheap labor etc. have all attracted corporations to come and set up camp in the Third World and this in turn has supercharged economic devolopment!!!
They say India will be there by 2050!
When Will South Africa Finally Devolop?

Nice to see your optimism!
India was once like this (still is in some places) but it has gone very far from that point even though we are battling corruption, poverty etc. Similar to what you guys in SA have to deal with.
It will happen - i believe. The question is when!
My opinion it'll be fully up to speed with the developed world within 50 years

flying involves machines, changing the country involves HUMANS, human are greedy, they put their greed above all else... that includes giving a flying #$^& to other people but themselves.
SA are poluted with these selfish $#^@ers who only see to make more money from the poor and "middle class" people - there is no distinction in SA only the RICH and P00R! For people like us who can't afford a R1million buck housing and struggle to pay for petrol in our "middle class cars" to get to work we are considered poor. To be considered rich you'll own over R2million housing + Luxuary SUV + mercs + Z4's and Ferraris...
So why are we so skeptical??? anything that we attempt to do to make life better only gets blown in our faces.
Here's a couple of major issues I have 1. build a metro rail from Soweto to Jhb/surrounding areas such that it'll alleviate traffic conjestion get's it's project shutdwn just because they didn't pay Jeff Radebe his loyality fees of 10% of that R12Billion project 2. Open up competition to Telecommunications in this country - I feking pay R600 for a shitty UP TO 1Mbps internet connection with a 3gig CAP! 3. Having 400odd criminals of the 500 as our cabinet ministers who run the country? 4. Having Zuma running for president???? 5. Having crime as the BIGGEST problem in SA where criminals can RAPE/STAB/TORTURE/SHOOT/HIJACK and only get 5 year prison sentances with parol after 3 months due to overcrowding? 6. All I need to do is bribe my way out of a traffic fine. 7. Our minister of safety telling us we are unpatroiatic if we leave the country due to the "crime" that he doesn't see as a problem 8. Our minister of health telling us that AIDS can be cured with Garlic and Beetroot?
these are just a few that I have mentioned here... you think about that

Its easy to be an idealist Nukes and envision a better future for all!
But the sad fact is that most people who have power don't give a shit about anything - and the people who care have no voice

The only way South Africa could ever be considered First World is if they invited 'previously disadvantaged' states into the 'club' on some type of sympathy basis. South Africa could never achieve it on merit alone. Nothing inside South Africa is based on merit so how could SA expect to compete internationally based upon merit?

Fishy...
I didn;t expect your minister of health to be that much of an idiot. Where in the world did he come up with that one. So i reckon these are the possible reasons why:
a: he is an idiot b: he is trying to be funny c: He is a 2 year old?
I would think on the lines of option C

Fish, leave Dr Beetroot out of this one. I can find NOTHING wrong with her AIDS policies. Yes, I am being serious. Do you as a tax payer want to foot the bill for the ARV's for the 2+ million people with HIV? Also, the media have a way of pulling stuff out of proportion. She said that those are HEALTHY! And that eating healthy helps the body to stay healthy. When the body is healthy, you LOWER the risk of HIV developing into full blown AIDS. What she has not explicitly said, is that garlic etc is just as good or better than ARV's. And she will probably never say it, because its not true. Even she should know that.

Yet she managed to omit ARV's from the "THIS-IS-HOW-SA-FIGHT-AIDS" stand at that big AIDS conference! Why did that conference conclude that SA are not going about the fight against AIDS correctly?

But she is correct... that is how the SA government fights AIDS. Its not the best way to fight it, but thats how we do it.
I dont like paying taxes, but paying taxes to give people houses who have none, to even try and feed the street children is one thing. But to pay for the meds because people couldnt control themselves and screw everything on two legs.... or just use one of the free condoms that my tax money also pay for, that I wont do. (or actually I will, since I will have no choice.... :-{ )
But ya, I dont really care what she says to whom, I like the way she does not use my money to buy meds for those people.

What I do not like is the fact that our TAX money goes towards changing street names/airport names - twice in the space of 2 years if I'm correct (for the airport name) - and shit like that. Why can they not use it to fund for our feking Public workers? What's their excuse for giving Teachers, Nurses and garbage collecters 7.5% increase instead of 10%? Who's the one that has to clean your shit up? Yes given that the demostration went pear shape from violence/burning tires etc.
Still Why can they spend R1billon to changing Road Names? and Pretoria to Ekkantlene???

Jun 29 2007, 01:07 AM
That pisses me of completely!
I wonder how many of "the people" would want names to be changed if they got the options "10% increase, or name change?" But "the people" are stupid. When some street names in Potch were to be changed, a meeting was held. The majority of "the people" said that it must change no matter what the cost.
there is no hope.
