If it is not your AV popping up the spyware message, then you already have spyware. sad.gif check under add/remove programs for anything you are not sure of. That is one place it sometimes appears. Also AVG have a spyware application, which is a free download. No linkage at this stage. will check when I get to work. Also try adaware/adware.

Download SpyBot by clicking here.

Install it and run the scan to check for problems; it's fairly simple to use but let us know if you have problems, or just ask your bro biggrin.gif

If there are still issues, click 'Start,' then 'Run,' then type 'msconfig' (without quotes). You'll see a tab along the top which says 'Startup'... post a list of the items under there and we can tell you which to remove.

doesn't work in 2000. Rusty should've mentioned that. I can't remember the command for 2000, or if there is a command. Damn, I feel stupid tonight. sad.gif

Well there are lots of ways to get rid of spware, viruses, etc..
But for the msconfig problem for Windows 2k, one option is to use google search for msconfig.exe, dont click the first link you see, make sure its a legit site... Once you have that copy to your system32 folder, cant remember off top of /me head but c drive, wind, something should be there, then go to start run, msconfig.exe

and bam, quick easy fix.....

for the virus problem, and other general pc problems here is what you do...
get a copy of avg antivirus its not the best it does okay job, its free, get another program called superantispware, probably do google search for both of em...

once installed get the latest updates, run scans on your system... disconnect your pc from the internet, after the scans, and you clean up your pc, do a defrag, delete crap you dont need, and lastly install firefox, then get some security extension add-on to block pop-up etc, a good one is called no-script, lets you control what scripts from a website load, ads, third party scripts etc...in other words lets you take back control.....

enough ranting...lol and good luck

Easiest and most reliable way is to download CCleaner. let's you remove dodgy startup entries and has a cool registry cleaner as well.
