Sony Video. A little over a year ago my wife and I bought a Sony 55” lcd rear projector. After about 13 months I noticed a blue image in lower left corner of the screen. Within 5 months the whole screen was blue. After talking to many Sony owners of The same type of unit they reported the same problem. The problem is that LCD panel was burning because of the halogen bulb. Now Sony has a fix for the prolem. it includes a new LCD drive and a new fan. BUT its not covered under warranty. The price? $3800.00. I paid $4200.00 for the TV. It should be covered by warranty Because this is clearly an Engineering flaw.

ouch... you should blame them and sue them for your issues cos it's not just yours... maybe it's best to get as many of those rear projector owners together and start a petitition...
for $4200 it's not a cheap tv...

Right, but engineering defects are hard to prove. My father inlaw was the assistant attorney general of the state of Texas. He said the only thing I have going for me is a lemon law. I would have to replace the LCD unit 3 times before Sony by law would have to replace the TV. Now If I did replace the LCD unit 3 times Sony would have to Reimburse me the $11000.00 or so dollars. But it’s a big risk. Ill just buy me A good old fasion CRT and break my back every time I move it.

I'm thinking of a Sharp PGA20X Sharp LCD Projector. It would be nice to have a 150" computer monitor. plus does 1080 HD, I have a HD tunner so it would work perfect. LCD is way to go, I know I had a problem with mine, but problems with LCD’s are rare.

Hmm not too keen on Projectors. They can get pretty tiring to work with as the screen is huge - everything is magnified and they do have there MAJOR contrast issues - and you need proper light conditions
Its good to have the projector as well - but i would reccomend that you stick with a proper LCD TV as you will have to shell out for a very high end projecter to have the same picture quality of a good LCD TV.

Yes lighting ia a factor, but I watch most my TV at night, I will be using it mostly
on my computer. I have 2 DVI outputs and have a Sony 21” CRT computer monitor.
I can use the CRT in the day. One thing I have not mentioned is my computers audio system. It consists of,
1 Acurus ACT-3 digital processor ( DTS/DOLBY DIGITAL) 5.2
1 Sony EP9 Digital processor (DOLBY DIGITAL) 5.1
1 Acurus a250 power amplifier 200 watts X2
1 Acurus a 125X5 125watts X5
4 Thiel 1.5 Speakers
1 PSB center channel speaker
3 B&W ASW-1000 Subwoofers.
And 2 creative audixy zs 2 soundcards.
So a projector would seem to complete my system. My computer desk is in the center
Of the room to I can place my screen on a wall. My viewing distance is bout 20 feet from
The wall. The only probem is I would have to move my sony CRT to the floor when I want to watch the projector. I my get a cheep 15” LCD for ease of movement.
Don’t know yet.

Well I already have a Sony 21” CRT monitor to daytime use. I would use the projector for night. I have a class b rated auto system on my computers. It consists of 1 ACURUS ACT-3 digital processor (DTS/DOBLY DIGITAL) 1 SONY ep9 digital processor (DOLBY DIGITAL) 1 ACURUS A-250 Power Amplifier 250 watts X 2 1 ACURUS 125X5 Power amplifier 125 watts X 5 4 Thiel 1.5 speakers 1 PSB center channel 3 B&W subwoofers and a Creative audigy 4 zs
So I think It would complete my system having a 192” screen. Also my desk is in the middle of the room and I have a wall about 15 feet Away. I like to play Simulators, Fear, Mechwarrior , Doom3 and such. As far as tv use my wife usually watches tv in the bedroom. She has Panasonic 32” CRT. So I may just scratch the tv in the living room.

CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT WON!
Apparently there are a lot of people with a lot of money that got their way.
Sony has dished out $1800.00 for labor charges to repair my LCD.
I don’t know how much the parts cost due to the fact that they were just sent to the
Sony Authorized Repair Facility and zeroed out.
TV now looks great.
If anybody has a First or Second generation Sony LCD RP you may want to Google your model #
And check if there are any recalls. Also If there is Sony will also pay to pick up your unit.
