Twice he has opted for a bowl rather than a bat when winning the toss.

First time we did not lose the game but the second time (bangladesh) we did

while many pundits may argue that he did this in order for us to achieve a better run rate, the world cup is NOT about who has the better run rate (although it does count when there is a tie) it's about who fucking wins their matches.

Now we all know that our bowling does not suck, we got a lot of experience and a few emerging good bowlers (langeveld)

But we fucking need BATTING PRACTICE!

Only 3 batters are actually making decent runs (Gibbs, Kallis and smith himself although he sucks)

so what does Smith do? put the opposition in to bat so that THEY can get the practice.

he is a complete idiot and I do not see South Africa making it to the finals let alone win the cup with him at the helm.

can anyone recall the last time he actually batted for 50 overs?

he is in for 7 overs and goes out, sure he makes a lot of runs but then what happens to our depth ?

He is just there to improve his own batting average and does not give a shit about anyone else.

He is a snot nosed, pimply faced youth that needs a good smack.

*spit*

Totally agree. I hav never liked him, and never thought he should be there. The choices he makes at the toss are not his only bad choices....

He also needs to work on his fitness. ban.gif

I have to agree as well. Smith, should be sacked as captain and replaced by someone with brains.

We need someone in the mould of Fleming, Ponting, Waugh, Jayasuriya!
naughty
yeah - instead of captain - just leave him to do his batting job - they should forget this nonsense of making good players into captains ie more-or-less admin job - because all that thinking hurts their brains and then they forget how to perform well in their actual required job
RenegadeNukes
Bring bakc Pollock, he knew what he was doing at least
millennia
and Captain Fantastic strikes again!!!!

lol

Yip, just when we need him. I hope he tripped walking to the change room and can't take the field and someone else captains us when fielding. biggrin.gif

Who votes that they drop Smith for the next match and let Polly captain? Even Boucher would be good. None of them can do worse than Smith.

I would make Prince captain and keep Boucer as VC. Pollock is too negative as he is prone to give up well before the end of a game.
Heir_of_Isildur
OMG you actually think Prince has a place in the team!?! Yes 5-dayers, but not ODI's.

Giving Boucher the captaincy would be silly, he's keeping, batting and captaining! No.

In the short term it might be better to sack Smith... no not really, who's going to replace him - nobody.

In the long term, keeping Smith as captain will pay off as he'll get better.

Changing Coaches or captains just because we suck doesn't fix things sad.gif

South African cricket captain Graeme Smith could have his powers curtailed as a result of turbulence in cricket's inner circles.

The role of Proteas coach Mickey Arthur is among other matters to be discussed when senior administrators attend a Cricket SA meeting on Thursday.

Some officials feel Smith has too much say. "We all know Graeme calls the shots," an insider said on Tuesday.

"He should be told that he is the boss on the field but that he should be more submissive off the field. There should be a strong character to keep him in place."

"As captain on the field, he does a good job but he wants to say too much off the field and wants to put his stamp on matters. This could be a department that he should keep out of."

There is a feeling that someone should be appointed in an umbrella position to manage the players. This will mean that a coach such as Mickey Arthur would be superfluous.

It is felt that Smith is the one who calls the tune and Arthur has a subordinate role. Now some officials are asking whether the players in the national team really need a coach.

Specialists could be called upon to help with fielding, as Jonty Rhodes has been doing, and the batting and bowling.

It has been suggested that SA cricket needs a strong character to handle the planning and management of the players.

Cricket SA's administrators meet on Thursday to discuss the recent World Cup failures and the road ahead. These ideas are expected to come up during deliberations.

Arthur's position as coach and the role of the other members of the team's management will also be on the agenda.

Good job on the field??? yeah right. just sack him as captain.
