yes so much so It has been put in TIME Magazine. its about time a major magazine company has put something like this out there to their readers.

i think even though there is so much talk about it people only here what they want to hear. They never want to believe something this bad could happen.
fx
It has actually been the topic of a few TIME's so far (at least two I've read). But yes, it is a good thing

Sadly money seems to be worth more than preserving the Earth for future generations.

Carte Blanche will having a show this Sunday about possible solutions to this major problem. Looking forward to that.

I watched a video on this at work. It was VERY interesting, and scary at the same time. There is a lot we can do to assist in this. One way is for companies to turn off the lights in there buildings over night, and on weekends. Simple things like that can make a huge difference!

QUOTE
If every company turned off its lights when the buildings weren't in use, and
combined it with energy saving technology, we would save between 2 and 4
million tonnes of greenhouse gasses every year.

If we meet our objectives during the first Earth Hour, the savings in green
house gas emissions will be the equivalent of taking 75,000 medium sized
cars off the road for one whole year! Now that's something worth doing.

Should have posted the whole e-mail when I got it, but I didn't read it until recently. Don't normally read the equity forum mails from work. sad.gif

We can all make a difference at home by using energy saving globes, and not leaving lights on in rooms that are not being used.
RenegadeNukes
Yes we all can make a difference and together we can help save our kind and planet

Yeah, it is the small things that can make a difference, but the companies are the ones who need to really start making the bigger impact. How many companies don't leave the lights on all the time?

Our school for one doens't. They leave the AC units, light bulbs, Computers on 24 Hours a day. I don't even want to think how much electricity they are wasting by doing that.

But in Bahrain it is so cheap that they are almost giving it away so no one really cares about coservation - everytime someone tries to bring it up it only falls on deaf ears

What a pity
Kaless
Seems to me that half of the people in the factory where I work don't know how to switch lights off. Some department lights are always on, some do get switched of though.
Carrots
Our lights are on timers at the office, but most of us leaves our PC's on during weekends and at night. (power hungry P4's as well)
The problem is that if we dont, we have to work for 5 hours while the bloody norton AV runs in the background.
LegendofMax
Lights are bad bleh bleh

Sadly we can't!!! crying.gif

We aren't allowed to do anything like that, even though we are always tryting to get the school to conserve more - they don't care

Yes there is plenty that we can do everyday so save energy. But the average person or company can only do do much.

The largest contributors of greenhouse gases are the US, Russia, Japan and recently India and China.
China and India can attribute this to their growing economy and rapid industrialization. I would imagine that in the next few years they will be the two greatest CO2 emitting countries in the world.

Interestingly, South Africa is 13th biggest contributor!

Counter Strike: Source

No matter how much, we as citizens try, it really makes little or no difference if the top 3 pollutors continue to spew out CO2 into the atmosphere at will!!

I believe that Australia comes after the US in the rankings. Does it come of any surprise that the US and Australia have not signed Kyoto.

Yes and no! India does use up tons of Fossil Fuels but every year there has been a shift to more renewable sources of energy. Well hopefully in 50 years - (when India fully devolops) thewre will have been a considerable shifgt to renewable sources of energy

Australia are back in 14th place. China's actually in the no. 2 spot.

The key for India and China is to focus on renewable soucres of energy while it is developing. It shouldn't be an afterthought but rather and integral part of their development.

We are responsible for approximately 3% of global warming (according to some sources). This is one big load of huey that is going to make more money for the elite.

20 years ago people were crying: "Oh Shit... we're headed for another ice-age!".

Global warming is happening, but it's a natural cycle and in fact we are still emerging from a relative 'ice-age' that occured in the middle ages.

It's just more bullshit propaganda... ignore it.

A lot of people leave their pc's on for that very reason - and for others (e.g. mine virus scans at night, defrags etc). Something not to miss out is setting your screen to switch off though.

Screen's (as I understand it) are pretty power hungry, and if you have it turn off after 5 minutes instead of running a screensaver a lot of people in an office over a long enough time will make a pretty big difference I'd guess.

Very interesting point of view there Heir! There is some very compelling evidence that what you say is true!

Global warming - Another conspiracy?? g.gif
Heir_of_Isildur
If you've watched the Al Gore doccie, "An inconvenient truth", you'll see enough propaganda to make you sick.

Man-made global warming is an uber-war of two massive money-making industries (Oil vs. anti-oil).

Real scientists have been saying we are not ersponsible for ages, but when politicians get involved, they only hear what 'other' scientists say when they are calling for a reduction in energy usage.

I'm not saying that we can't help by reducing energy usage (it'll save us money also), but we are NOT responsible for global warming... and when politic gets involved... you know there's shit to pay!
CyberStorm
Ive actually been meaning to see that.
Thanks for the heads up. Will see it for sure!
tacork
Global warming isnt real, just a scare tatic
