I am just dfoing something on V9, posting, using Pm etc. and i suddenly automatically get logged out of it and then i get a message saying i am a guest please log in..
This is incredibly irratating as this normally happens in mid post and i lose the entire post.
I have tried it with different browsers; IE 7, Firefox, Opera IE 6 and all the time i get the same result
Any idea why this is happening

you have a messed up machine. That has never happened to me. I suggest a format and re-install.

ye i has same problem on different forum. first log out of V9, then erase your internet history cookies and everything) next uninstall and reinstall. that should fix it

Strange....
Every now and then, perhaps once a week, when I log on, I have to stick in my username and password again because the boards don't remember me, but its not a problem, firefox remembers my details
Good luck fixing it!

Have you got a firewall? or a cookie scanner? cos that could be deleting your cookies

Yeah i fixed the issue. My norton firewall was interfering with the JavaScript on V9. I've disabled it and now its fine
Thanks guys

Typical, Just typical
There is an endless klist of all the problems Norton has called. The ANTI-Virus crashes my WC3 when i play online and i have to re-boot and then disable it.
Go for Zone Alarm if you need a firewall

I agree!!! I am only using Norton 'cause it came with the machine. It is soooo annoying and slows down my pc like nobody's bussiness
Screw Norton. I'm going for ZA

That also happens to me. The board doesn't remember me. Since my pass and username is verrrrry loooooooooong its getting on my nerves.

Actually i use norton and it doesn't slow my pc down. I even opened 10 tabs and it was perfectly fine. How fast is your CPU?

Firefox, and I have cleaned out all my cookies and cache (had a nasty run in with Virtumonde a while ago and had to clean install most of my browsing/internet software)

Weird. When I close my browser without loging out the next time I come I have to write the password and username again

this might be because your browser either has cookies disabled, or you are not selecting the "remember me" option when logging in
Fishfly
Sep 17 2007, 02:27 AM
actually the initially problem has been happening to me very often...
and nowdays I genereally have to relogin (I think it's AVG's - firewall clearing the cache/cookie)

I'm still getting logged out on a weekly basis. Not a trainsmash but would be nice to know why. Cookies set expire after a week i suppose?

Same here.
I haven't been able to find the relevant setting under the CP, but I'll have another look around.

In the admin cp -> tools & settings -> security & privacy change the field "Member's log in key: Expiration" to never, or 30 days, whichever you choose
RustPuppet

Thank you, sir.
Now set at 30 days instead of 7; the next best option is 'never' but don't reckon that's such a good idea.

shouldn't it be better to add a option that says
logged in for...
and let the user choose the amount of time?
