My Citi golf is making a horrible buzzing noise from time to time. When this happens the water light goes on - and I've checked, the car does not need water. The buzzing / light go on and off simultaneously - for undetermined periods while driving. Is it possibly an electric wire short that's causing this? VW does not believe me that this happens, and each time I have one of their technical guys in the car the buzzing does not happen. Sometimes moving the steering wheel helps, or hooting (!) or putting on my indicators. Please let me know if you have a similar problem or know a solution. Where are you?
CT? KZN? JHB?
I had a similar problem, the buzzing comes from inside the dash right? Behind the dail cluster?
In my case it was the oil temp sender that was faulty, R20 and about 30 seconds to replace.
It could also be one of the following Thermostat(s), temperature sender switches, water/oil pump.
I need a little more information, what year/model is the car? EFI or Carb? Engine capacity? Modded (if so, what mods?) or stock?
You mentioned that hooting or indicating helps with the problem? To me that would seem to indicate an electrical fault.
If you're in JHB I can come have a look or you.

I have a feeling it won't be modded, but I could be wrong.

I had a similar problem with my previous Polo.
Turned out it was the brake fluid cap that was not screwed on properly, causing the alarm to sometimes go off.
Maybe check that, as well as the connectors to the caps.

My sister's car did the same when it lost oilpressure due to low oil level, it seems the buzzer is a type of general warning system

That's correct Wolf.
It's a general warning for either the Oil pump and pressure, and the water cooling system and pump.
