For those souls out there that are running x64 and want to give Cellfactor a try.
I could not find a howto on the web - perhaps I just wasn't looking where I should have, but in anycase

Getting it installed.
Cellfactor WILL not install on x64 (the usual "you need winXP" crap) [It doesn't install on W2K also btw]

2 methods:

There is a way to modify the cellfactor.msi file with orca and copying it back whilst installing to bypass the os-check.
I did not try this, as I last coded in school and then only with pascal... so this was getting a bit too serious.
Can't find the link to the forum where the guy explains how to do what needs doing.

Found it:
http://www.planetamd64.com/index.php?showtopic=22277

{Side note: I'm not sure if the driver will install or not - because it does not run if you normally run under x64}

Secondly use a 32bit XP install (I luckily have access to a few)
You NEED to install the Ageia driver that comes with cellfactor on the 32bit pc

Copy Cellfactor over to x64.
Install latest Ageia driver on x64 - available from http://www.ageia.com
On the 32bit pc open the Ageia Tech. folder under Program_Files and copy the "2.4.9Cellfactor" directory over to your
x64 => Put under Program_Files(x86) -> Ageia Tech.

For some truly bizarre reason this specific engine version IS NOT included in the new driver, and it is needed to run the game (tech demo?)

Also copy the shortcuts over to x64 - there are quite a number of switches already in these.
I've not tested it by just running the exe.

It is then happy with creation and will run (If you have a PPU that is)
If not add "EnablePhysX=false" (no quotes) to the shortcuts to cellfactor which should work. hypothetically speaking
You will still need that driver btw...

tada. Have fun.
THE SAiNT
Luckily our combined minds could get the better of the problem.
Chances are that I will have my PPU card by Wednesday. Luckily I dont run XP 64, so the installation of Cellfactor should go smooth.
Cant wait to play GRAW with it !!!

what it cell factor and what is its use?
Lucien
Cellfactor: Combat Training is a tech. Demo/ First Person shooter that was developed to (supposedly) use the new Physics processing unit by Ageia (http://www.ageia.com for more info)
It was later revealed that it would actually run without the "required" hardware, but anyhow.

After the Tech Demo was shown at a trade show (which one I don't know), the developers decided to turn the demo into a full game.
Cellfactor: Revolution

Revolution is still to be released (was supposed to have been end 2006) - they now say early 2007.

If you'd like to see more. There are quite a few movie clips of cellfactor (cf & revolution) on the web. Pretty big ones. But very impressive imho.

Indeed

We must give it a try soonest. Cellfactor and GRAW.
Just watch that driver. If you install the newest one over the old one - it will most likely overwrite/uninstall the old one.
So for safety sake copy it out.

For those wanting to give it a try

Cellfactor: Revolution is to be released via FREE download on the 8'th of May
http://www.cellfactorrevolution.com/_the_r..._starts_may_8_/

Another "Game" is in production - Warmonger - Also Free
Seems like Ageia has to much money to burn...

* looks almost like I'm spamming my own thread....*
Anyhow.

Cellfactor Revolution installs with no problems on Win x64.
So all of this mostly academical now I guess.

Nah i luv my xp home smile.gif

I really dislike that Aegis crap that gets installed with some of the games lately... if you don't have a Aegis card why do you need the software for it???

Lucien
I won't recommend x64 to anyone... I've learned from my mistake
If I go vista, it'll be 32bit.

Programs that install by themselves are a real pain.

Personally I feel there is no difference between 64 bit and 32 other than the amount of RAM that it supports

XP/Vista 64bit supports up to 128GIGs of RAM

and that already has a good starting point... as for software 64bit does utilize a 32 bit emulation for those 32bit programs so it may take you extra time to install 32bit programs but it is POSSIBLE.
Lucien
Warmonger is due in Oct'07 - if any1 cares.

Unlike Cellfactor, Warmonger uses the Unreal3 engine.
Will like to see how it performs.
{Might actually have a frame rate....}
