I don't know if it's just me, or is it physically impossible to play a fps with a console controller?

Sort of got a xbox360 for free (on cell phone contract) I got myself Perfect Dark Zero & Farcry.
Dunno I just feel so damn "stupid". Can't look and strafe or even shoot on the move.

Now I've even gotten a Keyboard/Mouse adaptor for the thing (R600 odd bucks from the UK)
Haven't had the most success getting the thing to actually work though (just refused yesterday)

Then after a frustrating hour at the console you sit in front of your PC and fire up old UT2K4 and it just seems right...
Do any1 else feel the same way? Was console just not made for the fps's?

I have to agree with you... I've got a PS2 and hell when trying to play FPS games it frustrates me to no end! I'll never leave my pc for a console for a FPS ever AGAIN!

i agree no matter what console comes. computers will always be better to play on graphics and performance wise.

It aint that bad once you get used to it, but keyboard / mouse will always be better though

Aiming on a console is a Nightmare!!!

Only playable if you have autoaim enabled at least for the game. See MGS3: SE

Took a lot of getting used to but I eventually got pretty good at Q3 on the PS2 using the analog sticks, not as pin point and railgun work was harder but its not impossible tongue.gif

I still remember when i played CNC 1 on my PS1 - and i loved it soooo much

the wii is good for fps on a console

Wii is reckon is the only stock playable console. Interesting to see if the new Keyboard and mouse combo for the PS3 will makew FPS possible. Still the aiming system for Snake Eater is amazing, normal mode is third person - tap square and it locks onto an enemy's chest (they have body armor), then you can tap L1 for first person mode. That has aim assist so it is pretty easy to score head shots after practice

The MGS series is the only Console FPS i have been able to play.

Once again, it aint so bad. Mouse gives more precision yes but the X360 controller works really great for FPS's, just play GOW or a game like Rainbow Six to see what fun you can have with the controller.

I find it pretty easy to play fps on consoles. But then again, I played them first on a console. It is really easy on a PC tho. And whoever said that about rts was dead on, can't play them on consoles for the life of me (hated warcraft II on PS1.)

I think it just takes some getting used to.

Been playing games like The Darkness and Call Of Duty 3 on PS3. COD has an aiming assist type thing which does make a difference. And The Darkness is not really a full FPS, you still have to shoot people though - but not as fast paced, probably why it's bearable (besides, I prefer to use the dragon things that you can spawn). Also had a go at some Resistance: Fall Of Man which also has an optional auto aim. But I found it ok to turn that off and just use the analog sticks.

But I did play some Halo 2 last night on Xbox, 3 way multiplayer and it was quite easy after about 15-20mins of getting back into it.

On the whole though, I would have to say I enjoy playing a game like COD on pc more than on a console. I get frustraed easily with these games when you have to repeat a mission a gajillion times because the time you have to aim is so insanely short before you get nailed in the face. I suppose it just comes down to the style of the game, fast paced in your face games (UT, Q3 etc.) are much more suited for pc imho.

FPS = Keyboard + Mouse FTW!

Never enjoyed playing an FPS on console.

for some reason i got the hand of playing fps games on my 360 really quickly

now i really enjoy console fps games.
i just hate multiplayer - split screen.
split screen is ugly and you can cheat and just see where the other guy is.

Console is only good for watching movies, or playing Final Fantasy anyway
