This year i am planning to completely upgrade my Pc. Does anyone have any reccomendations for parts and companies. Herve is what i want doing
  1. Upgrade the graphics card
  2. Get a 2GB RAM card
  3. Boost my hard drive from 80 to 200 GB
  4. Add a DVD Burner
I could use some suggestions on companies and also what i should do with my old parts ( id on't have another PC to put em in)

IMHO:

Graphics - hang on until the 8600 line gets released. You could grab a couple of them cheap and run them in SLi, which would be a very cost effective and power friendly solution.

RAM - 2GB is definitely the way to go. Make sure you get quality stuff though.

HDD - don't bother with 200GB, you can get way more bang for your buck with a drive twice that size. RAID is also a very good idea.

DVD - they're cheap enough so just buy whatever's fastest at the time I reckon.

Either way, hang on until you've got the cash and then look at definite prices.

ermm.gif no why waste R500 more just to get a 2-3-2-5 timing? If you not overclocking or trying to set a new speed record then it's a waste of money.

the 8600 will be released in March 2007 when ATI launches their R600 flagship... price/performance it looks as the 8600 is going to outperform the 7900's even tho it's half the performance of the 8800... So as Rust said that's a good suggestion.

as for HDD, best price/gig atm is the 320gigs from seagate is the best atm...

DVD burner... get a LG pretty decent in price and performance - tho I would recommend a Plextor no one sells one in SA sad.gif and their price is expensive

By 'quality' I meant not the no-name shit from local retailers. At least get Kingston or something semi-decent.

Hmmm.. Can you guys give me some names!

RAM? Kingmax, Kingston, OCZ (price ram but this is top quality), Mushkin (top quality), Transcend (standard)

as for GPU... any brand as long as it's cheap seeing as 80% of them use the nvidia/ati reference design smile.gif
