Hi Guys I have a problem...

I tried booting my PC last nite and it booted and all got into windows then it decided to reboot on me... after the reboot the power cuts out... so my initial thought was something was shorting in my case... maybe due to dust... so I decided to RIP everything in hte case out - yes the works, water cooling, fans, Radiator etc... I stripped the PC down to it's bare minimum. Mobo, CPU, RAM and a smallish 6600gt. Pressed the power and the power starts up for 1 spilt second then the whole pc dies - no power goes through the mobo.

now my question is, could this be a mobo or a CPU problem?

Should I take the Mobo with the CPU to get it tested or just the mobo?

Thanks in advance

I reckon it could be the PSU. I have had a problem when the PSU didn't have enough power to boot while the HDD was plugged in. I unplugged the HDD and then it booted. Issue was completely resolved with a new PSU. sad.gif

Could also be that the HDD is shorting. Have you tried using another HDD, or no HDD at all? Also try to see if you get further into the boot sequence if you take RAM out. then try with no graphics then with neither.

dude don't you READ?

I UNPLUGGED EVERYTHING except for CPU, RAM and GPU...

I would take both CPU and mobo for testing. It saves you a trip in the event that the component you take for testing actually works!

My gut feel here is that your mobo is the cause...but are you sure its not your PSU??

Crank out the multimeter and get testing!

Fish, I got a spare mobo if you want to test?

Sounds to me like mobo, but could be CPU too, I had the same probs when my one CPU went.

Let me know.

Don't you read. TAKE THE RAM OUT AND BOOT. IF IT STILL DOESN'T WORK, TAKE THE GPU OUT AND BOOT. bangin.gif bad trout.
