There is this house in Rondebosch in Cape Town that I use to drive pass almost everyday and I always admired it because it was so beautiful. It is a double story house on the corner of this road, red brick, beautiful outside furnishings and from what I could see a beautiful garden. The curtains was always closed and for the three years that I had walked and driven pass the place I never saw any windows open or any people for that matter. Anyway, I made some inquiries about the house and it turned out the house is apparently haunted!!!
No one has lived there for years, every time people moved in they moved out the next day because they said the house was filled with ghosts who would make noises, move furniture, close the curtains, telling the new residents to get out etc... And as a result no one has lived in this house now for years and the owner of the house who inherited the place from i dont know who, was so desperate for a buyer that he was prepared to accept whatever anyone offered... So Miss Brave (me) decided to go to the house accompanied by three of my friends.. I just finished lectures and we all walked to the house to go take a look...
The gates were closed so I figured ok maybe I can climb over the wall, but I pulled on the sliding gate and turned out it was open. I remember as I did this, one of the curtains in the upstairs room closed... Now I dont know if it was my paranoia or what.. but either it was closed and the wind moved it or someone or something actually closed the curtains.. Anyway... we got in and there is a paved walk in before you can get to the door. The area, the place was so quiet and cold actually...
We got to the door and amazingly enough, all the plants leading up to the door was still alive and green and living, which is surprising since the plants were under a veranda type thing, so there was no way that the rain could have been the supply of water. The house itself still looked so new and clean... The white paint on the verandah and poles all looked new as well... Again suprising because no one has lived there for years now...
Since everyone else was scared and stuff I turned on the handle and the door opened... and then.. it slammed shut... I turned the handle again, opened the door.. and it slammed shut again... And at that stage, the heavy creepy vibe kicked in and all three of my friends ran off...
So I tried it again and again it slammed shut.. So i thought ok lets go look through the window and see maybe there is something blocking the door or something... Since the curtain was a bit parted I thought I would look through that... Behind the door nothing.. but i did manage to take a look inside the house a bit... there was no furniture. nothing in sight.. just the walls and the floors.... I couldnt get around to the other side of the house because the bushes was just too thick... I tried the door handle one more time, but this time it just wouldnt turn at all... So i gave up and walked to the sliding gate.. opened it and went out onto the pavement and bam... it shut close.... There was no wind and its definitely not an electrical gate....
Ok so there is definitely something up with that house and it might even be haunted, but I dont care if I have to call in an imam, rabbi and a priest to exorcise that place... I would like to buy that house someday.... It is just so beautiful and so ideal, its exactly the way I have always wanted my dream house to look like.... And the owner is willing to even take 100k for the house.. which is an absolute give away for house prices in Rondebosch... When I do get back to varsity, I'll take a pic and post it up.
Am I crazy? Do you believe that houses can be haunted? Any experiences like mine?
And before anyone says anything I know there is a post about ghost stories but this post is about whether or not I am crazy, disturbed or similar, to want to buy the house.

I don't think you crazy. I would buy that house if I had the spare cash. I would also get in a priest or whatever to do his thing.

Care to share any of the stories you have heard? I enjoy reading these things. Anyone watch White Noise? Would be interesting to get one of those people in there, if they can get in, and do their thing.

I enjoyed the movie. The DVD I watched had a few extras on it.
One of the things was how you can listen to and possibly interpret these white noise signals with simple radios and household devices.
I was going to try it out but the DVD had to go back the to video store. Yes, thats my story and I'm sticking to it...

I also enjoyed White Noise, I wonder how many ppl tried to hear stuff through static after watching the movie.
Regarding the house I must say that I don't think it would freak me out unless I was harmed by a ghost. I have had a few encounters with them and apparently there is one in my house. he's never bothered me so I dont worry.

Nope, unfortunately you are not crazy. I do believe in the supernatural, i have also has some experiences myself.
Also keep in mind that these "spirits" are rarely evil, and most likely are as surprised to see/interact with you as you are with them. If you are more interested in the subject, do a google for Diane Brown, she has written quite a number of books on the subject, and provides a unique view.

Millenia: i've had health problems since I was born....
Valheru: unfortunately i'm not crazy?? Why do you want me to be?
And Warpath: these ghosts are, according to the stories, the violent type.. they take the furniture that people bring into the house and smash it... and i dont know if this story is true but there was one incident i was told about where the 'ghosts' had set the bedding alight of the family that had moved in there

There is some people I know of that does the whole exorcism of houses thing and I do hope to ask them to go to the house... If only we can find the owner!! If we dont get to buy the house, then at least I would like to get the plan for the house and maybe when I have enough money one day to buy a plot... Build a house similar to that with a few of my own personal touches/modifications

Well, I suppose I could tell a story about the house I stayed in.
There has always been something creepy about the house, from the coldness to the way that when you walked around there was always some sort of creepy feeling over you (like being watched, cliche I know but true). One thing I do notice that there was far less physical activity in the house than in the haunted house that Shi-shi talks about. The house was built on a plot which was originally a farmhouse around WW2 times. It sits next to a river as well. Apparently what happened at the house was a murder of some sorts, a woman got strangled or drowned near to this river. And the room I stayed in was the kitchen where the murder happened, or somewhere very nearby to it.
There were a good couple of nights where I'd have recurring nightmares, four or five of them in a row. And all I would remember is being attacked or being on the verge of being killed, and then waking. The second I would leave the room the nightmares would stop just there.
My uncle slept in my room and got sick instantly there, he complained about being drained and nauseus.
My mother slept inside the same room and she dreamed of being strangled and pinned down and unable to wake up from it.
Also, anyone who has been in the house overnight seems to have been badly affected. My baby sister's baby sitter looked excessively drained and extremely exhausted when she slept over, people have come into the house and gotten very edgy, and decided to leave. Very few people have actually wanted to actually stay in the place overnight, and fewer have, maybe one or two at most.
That was part of it really, but yeah - very disturbing house.

Yeah well at the moment that is the least of my worries... The owner seems to be awol and every agency I ask to look into the house and go value the house has refused... apparently everybody knows about the infamous Milner house and no one wants to go there....
I'm going to try to go there again next week some time, see if I can find something, there must be old letters in the postbox or something. Either that or I have to get the plans for the house and start saving to build a replica of the house.. and that will take a loooong time.. thats why i wanted this house, because the owner according to sources is willing to take anything for it...

Hmmm interesting story... has anyone ever tried asking a priest/monk/rabbi etc to check the place out? Maybe the spirits are stuck in this world like that movie, beetlejuice
anyhow I do believe in ghosts and I've encountered a couple of freeky things... makes my goosebumps grow.
The last one I had was at my work... she was working late and I sat around in the receiption area watching some DSTV waiting for her to finish... she called me and asked me to make her a cup of tea so I walked back to the kitchen area and felt extremely hot (the point where my vision was going blurry) I made the tea and heard the aircon chimming away in the corner... We both knew for a fact that the aircons were off when we stepped in. It was very hot that day and if anyone had switch the aircon it would have been on cold not on heater.
Even before my gf asked me for tea she swore she saw someone walk past the design room...

Should have been "ownership". Sorry. I could almost guarantee that if you moved into that place the owner would come running saying "Hey, this is my place get out!" Or better yet "You want it, make me an offer?". My point is, you would finally be able to make contact with him/her.

I have always heard that it was near impossible to evict people from a house, even if you owned it.
I was seriously planning a company based on house renting, and was strongly advised against it because even if they breach the contract heavily, getting them out of the house is damn near useless.

A little bit of history of the house:
Its situated at 99 Milner Road Rondebosch. The house is an Edwardian style Jac Loopuyt house, built in 1908. Apparently it used in the mid 1970's by a strange cult that conducted all sorts of 'activities' in the house.. An old man is reported to be haunting the house and apparently he roams the place, opening and closing doors and windows...

My grandmother was Christine Loopuyt, youngest daughter of Jacob Loopuyt. Shi-Shi just for clarifacation the house was started in 1900 as a wedding gift to his wife. My grandmother was born in the house on Milner Rd., when she was growing up they called the house Eindracht. She did have a gardener who looked over the house, that may be the man in the house that opens and closes doors.
My great grandfather was the Dutch Dipolmate for South Africa. I do know that during the Flu Epidemic of 1918 her family did take in some people.
I always heard about the second story patio. She would tell me that they would sleep out there since they didn't have a/c. The cool breeze.
I would like to talk to someone about this house. I have heard stories about it for years if anyone know where I can get a picture of it I would appreciate it. I live in the States so it's not possible for me to come see it for myself right now. I'd like someone to respond to me.

Move. At some point in time probably will anyway. Not sure what the laws are in SA, but oddly enough in the United States a realtor has to disclose this type of information about real estate. My wife and I got our money back on a home because the realtor didn’t tell us that the previous owners sold it because they thought it was haunted.
