Hey guys!

Jis, been a while since i've been here. I'm all out of whats happened on the computer front. Like AGP DDR400 not being supported by new MB's. ermm.gif

Anyways, being out of touch, my brother's MB short circuited through some or other event (despite him having a UPS) and took the CPU with it. Now the insurance company wants to replace my Gigabyte K8NS-939 board wit a ECS KV2 Lite. I bought the K8NS when it was launched, so it was a rather good board when in its time. Anyway, should I let them replace my nForce 3 250 board with a VIA K8T800 (which was an insuperior chipset when I bought the Gigabyte)??????

Thanx in advance for all your help!

I think you should read this: http://www.hothardware.com/viewarticle.aspx?articleid=526 and http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=15566

Both sites feature some comparison between the VIA K8T800 and nForce 3 250 chipsets!

firstly I would say NO

a ECS board is far inferior to a gigabyte board due to the chipsets the nforce 3 is far superior than the via for a 754 board

I would seriously recommend you getting a cash payout and start hunting for the new INTEL or AM2 system.

Thanx guys!

Nah, I'm little fed up with the insurer and broker and their sh**. I mean a heck of a premium is paid on the PC's insurance because it is insured for R15000 and now they want to give me nothing for a PC which was a mid/top range PC back when I built it up! I nolt that clued up currently with PC's but they know sh**! The insurance company is supposed to put us in the same/ a better state than we were in before the loss, but currently, as things are going, we are in a worse of state. Probably offtopic.gif ! this should probably go into Bitch and Moan! The problem is one don't get motherboards which still have AGP and DDR400, thats why they are looking for the cheap option out by giving us the crappy replacement board.

Thanx!

well then your insurance must replace your PC with the same value as when you purchased your system... but yeah as you said your insurance is prob trying to screw you over by getting out of paying for your board... This is why I HATE insuring house contents angry.gif

Best bet is to fight for a replacement value with your insurance so had you paid R1500 for the mobo back then they must replace you with a same value mobo of the current generation. If not take them to the insurance ombudsman
