Centurion - Fresh from setting a world record for catches, South African wicketkeeper Mark Boucher is after Ian Healy's milestone for test dismissals.

When Boucher caught Faisal Iqbal for one off fast bowler Jacques Kallis on the first day of the first Test in Centurion on Thursday, he passed Australian Healy's mark of 366 catches in tests.

Boucher said he was after Healy's mark of 395 dismissals, and acknowledged that he and current Australian wicketkeeper, Adam Gilchrist, who has 381 victims, were vying for the top of the list.

Boucher's two catches on Thursday, which ended with Pakistan on 242 for five, took him to 382 dismissals.

"I wasn't aware of the record for the most catches, but I am aware of the most dismissals, that's something I have eyed out," Boucher told a news conference.

"Myself and 'Gilly' are probably in a race for that milestone, and you could say I have my nose ahead at this stage because he's not going to be playing Test cricket for a while."

Boucher was asked where he would place himself among current wicketkeepers.

"Gilchrist has taken wicketkeeping and batting to a different level, while I probably rate Kumar Sangakkara more as a batter than a keeper even though he does a great job with the gloves for Sri Lanka," Boucher said.

"I think myself and (New Zealander) Brendon McCullum are more in the mode of keeping batters.

"If I can do a job with the bat down the order, which I think I have done, then I'll be a satisfied cricketer at the end of my career."

Boucher is also playing his 100th Test, the fourth South African after Shaun Pollock, Kallis and Gary Kirsten to reach three figures.

"It's been a privilege for me to actually play with all the other guys who've reached a hundred Tests," Boucher said.

"But then it's a special occasion every time I walk on to the field."

This is excellent! I am so glad he is doing so well, he is an excellent keeper smile.gif Onward to victory tongue.gif

Goodness between Graeme and Nel, looks like ther is still hope

I hope that Boucher gets there before Gilly, but Gilly is a top keeper so I want be upset if he gets it first. Either way, they will both get there, and it will be interesting to see who finishes with more in the end.

Yeh, i hope so to. Then at least we will have some title to our name tongue.gif

Go bouch!

Boucher is a very good keeper.

He adds great value to the team especially lower down in the batting order.

He's got us out of jail so many times before I've lost count!

Bouch should do us proud during the upcoming CWC!!

Hope he gets the record before Gilchrist!

On todays performance, you wouldn't say that. sad.gif He could have been 2 wickets closer to that great milestone, but he dropped them both. Yes they weren't the easiest, but you would expect someone of his calibur to take them. Hopefully he will be his usual reliable self in the second test. smile.gif

I love Boucher playing, I think he is great, but damn he can whine sometimes! He looks really picky about everything, and if he doesn't get what he wants, groot kak!

Other than than, I would obviously be extremely proud to have another South African getting a record, as well as it being a class act like Boucher.

But OMW did you see Gilly in that 20/20 match against England? duuuuuude.....

Yeah I saw that. Thing is he has carried that on in the last 2 one dayers. That guy is amazing.
CyberStorm
Gilchrist is an awesome wicket-keeping and batting machine!

But boucher has a certain toughness to him.

I get the impression that he's the kind of guy that will get us out of jail and hit the winning runs for South Africa during the world cup final. smile.gif
Gitano
I think so too, lets hope we not only make the world cup final, but don't actually ever need to get out of jail!

My perfect scenario would be us being tied in the last over with 1 wicket in hand, and stealing a cheeky single to win it. tongue.gif haha Basically a re-run of our Semi against Aus in 1999, but this time we win it.

/me feels physical pain at the mere though of that fateful day in Edgbaston at the 99 CWC semi-final. crying.gif
If only Donald had run!!!!!!!!!!!
cyfermaster
Or if he had not run. Klusener could have hit the next ball for four. He didn't need to run on that one. sad.gif
