Lexus unveiled a high-performance sport sedan, the IS-F, at the Detroit Motor Show. It is due to rival hot wheels such as the Audi RS4.

The IS-F is still in concept guise but apparently the production model won't be much different.

According to Lexus the IS-F is powered by a 5-litre V8 engine, which kicks out about 300kW. The estimated torque figure is about 475Nm.

Its engine is mated to the world's first eight-speed direct sport-shift transmission.

Lexus says that the IS-F will go from 0-100km/h in less than five seconds.

The IS-F is based on the proven rear-wheel-drive Lexus IS, which is equipped with a double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension.

The "F" designation was first conceived nearly 20 years ago with a project internally coded "Circle-F," with the "F" standing for "flagship."

This was the original code for what became the Lexus Division. The Circle-F designation further evolved into the code name Flagship One, or F1.

Much of the development of the IS-F took place at Fuji Speedway and the Higashi-Fuji Technical Centre in Japan.

I see one problem with this - its still going to be a lexus sad.gif

I suppose we dismiss Lexus because of its legacy as never being a sporty car, rather a diplomats car if you will.

But yeh, RS4 all the way.

Even if this car goes on sale here in SA, most people would simply ignore it.

South African car buyers are simply, status driven.

All too often, a car that is cheaper, faster, more reliable and superior in just about every possible way is ignored by the vast majority simply becuase its perceived to be an inferior brand!!

Its all about perception in SA, and for most people, if you drive a luxury German sedan (Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi) you tend to see yourself as upper-class.

It is a status symbol!!
You can compare this to having a trophy wife.

Omg the first car Lexus makes that actually looks worthy to drive

hmmmm........ Not sure if the Lexus would be RS4 rival unless the price is the same (highly unlikely)

Also they can easilly make it better, slap two turbo's on it like the older RS4 and bobs your uncle.

Audi have Lamborghini tech to work with too, but I think they will keep that for the flagships S6/ RS6/ S8

not sure why they didn't gallardo the R8 though.
