I'm wondering if we should try to organize periodic (perhaps quarterly) fund raising drives on Vault9 and BlogMad - essentially across Kinetiq. If we all voted for a charity on the board, and decided on a respectable, good cause, would you donate?Y

For example we could choose Breast Cancer for the 1st Quarter of this year, and have a bar at the top saying "12330 rand raised so far - donate!" or something? Also does anyone know what would be required from our side?

E.g. if we just opened a separate bank account, and used that to collect the money then gave it all to a charity would that be "acceptable" ?

p.s. this is not if you help charity, its if you think its a good idea and would help out?

I would most definately donate. I said infrequently as I won't be able to donate say every month. Speaking of which. Any more info on the blankets thing?

I would, but Id rather donate to one thing thats going to make a difference, rather than 342 little initiatives , so that I can only afford to donate like R5 each....

well we are going ahead with blankets for winter, that will make a helluva difference to someone

We are currently looking at another idea that will not only help a worthy cause, but is also going to be very fun to participate in.

Rush: why no focus on one initiative at a time like you said at some stage, like one from now until July, then another from July until December, I think it makes a whole lot more sense, you will have more support as people wont feel like they just keep on forking out.(easier on the current account I mean)

We have a couple of ideas, but I mean if as a standard, always running type of thing we chose 4 charities a year, and raised money for one per quarter. E.g. 4 donations a year; would it be a good idea?

I think its a good idea and YES I would donate, however, it would be better if we picked 2 charities a year and raised money in half yearly intervals.

Its going to be difficult to get people to contribute every 3 or so months. Its far better to let the donation period run for about 6 months to allow more people to contribute. It also gives us more time to get the word out to V9 members who haven't been here in a while!!
