There was a further delay in the start of play in the first Castle Lager Test between South Africa and India on Friday morning, after the umpires inspected the pitch at 10.30 and found it was still not fit for play.

The umpires were scheduled to inspect the pitch again at 11.15.

There is some confusion over what caused the damp patches. It is thought that the patches may have been caused by damp hessian which was laid on the track under the covers.

Groundstaff have been trying to dry out the patches with hairdryers. - Sapa

So we wait dry.gif

Oh yay, they started batting.

India first. Will be very interesting to see Dale Steyn bowl to the Indians. He has been in good nick.

I seriously don't understand why they don't just open with Polly. He is bowling awesome. Everybody (except Smith and the coach maybe) know that Ntini takes more wickets when opening with Polly. Polly may not strike all the time, but he stops the other team scoring and then Ntini gets the wickets. What more would you want from a bowling partnership??

YAY I'M PROBABLY GOING TO WATCH ON SUNDAY. I will just stand screaming for autographs like I always do. They better be selling that yummy beer too.

Oh, and POLLY FOR THE WIN. <3
cyfermaster
kewl. I may also be popping there on Sunday. smile.gif Think the wub.gif would like to go also, so this may just happen for a bit, cause there is the celebration to go to. biggrin.gif

I don't understand why they are opening with Gibbs and Smith now. Why not keep the De Villiers/Smith pairing. Saying that, Smith has been trapped lbw again, because of a fault in his technique. Where is the professionalism in trying to sort it out?
dr_z
So we got bowled quite cheaply, for like 84 runs. Quite a shocker really.
cyfermaster
Smith and De Villiers is the opening pair for one dayers only by the sounds of things. Will never understand the selectors. What happened to having a spinner??? ermm.gif Our selectors are rubbish. bangin.gif Going to be interesting to see what we eventually get India out for. Going to be really hard to win this one. Lets see......

Whats cricket? I prefer Bowls sad.gif

Man are we playing pathetically. Smith is superb as per usual with that gem gibbs keeping him company in the changerooms. Sad thing is we could easily chase 400, but not with the amatures we have playing for us now sad.gif
W@RP@T}{
Well....... I was there yesterday in the comfort of our own Box and free alchohol, I think if there wasn't any Jack's or captains I would have been there for 30mins and p'ed off.... crap slow cricket from our side.
cyfermaster
I have a feeling we will lose, but I hope we lose going down with a fight like the Aussies. We better not try to defend for two days, cause then we will lose and by A LOT. I will be happy to lose but buy at least going for the win. smile.gif No harm in losing to a team that has played better than us thus far, not that I like our team losing.

Maybe they will drop Smith and Gibbs now. biggrin.gif Gibbs hasn't done anything for ages, and doesn't deserve to be there, bring in someone else for crying.gif out loud. Smith, well he is useles......

At least I am not the only one that feels this way. We also need some more bite in the bowling department. At times our attack just doesnt seem penetrative.
cyfermaster
Looking at a few things... I think we should open with the normal 10 and 11 and put Gibbs and Smith at the bottom. They may get a few more runs than normal, and 10 and 11 can't do any worse than Smith and Gibbs have been doing...
cyfermaster
And then it was all over... sad.gif Well Done India. clap.gif

Eat your words Smithy boy...

South Africa on Monday called uncapped spinner Paul Harris into their squad for the next two tests against India, in Durban from Dec. 26 and Cape Town from Jan. 2.
This dude is 28. Why not bring in Tshabalala. He can get some experience. They brought Paul Adams in when he was young, and he did well.

Anyways, saying that. It is one thing bringing him into the squad, I just hope that they actually use the guy, otherwise it is pretty pointless IMO. This is also pointless...

QUOTE
"Paul Adams is the only wrist spinner in South Africa with any sort of record but he has been brought in as the 15th member of the squad and I have no doubt he has some way to go to make the starting XI," Lorgat added.

If he has so much work to do to make the team, WTF have him in the squad?? He could be playing (if he was good enough) domestic cricket to get into some kind of form, so that he could make the team...

Some interesting news...

QUOTE
"The opening pair definitely need some runs and we are going to have to talk hard about top-order alternatives in Durban," Lorgat said.

Can't see them doing anything about the openers, as much as I would like to. I reckon they may move Gibbs down the order and drop one of the other guys, Prince, or AB... when in reality they should drop Gibbs, bring someone else in. They should also drop Smith, but he is captain, so that is HIGHLY unlikely.
dr_z
Paul Harris is a top wicket taker in the domestic competition, but I would prefer Johan Botha because he offers an extra batting option. Prince was one of the "better" batsmen, although he clearly nicked a ball yesterday and didn't walk evil.gif.
