I for the like of me can't fathom why anyone would knowingly send a DVD to someone else, when the region of the DVD obviously wont match the region of the DVD players available in that area!

It makes me really angry. Why even have regional coding anyway!?!?

Anyway, back to what I wanted to ask!
Is it possible to change the region of a DVD player. It is a stand alone player, not one in a computer, because I can obviously get the DVD working on my computer, but you dont exactly want to sit around a computer screen watching a movie, now do you?

Thanks guys!

Search for the unlock codes for your particular player model, it'll be a combination you enter with the remote. Service people use them for testing and such but you can usually unlock the region too.

I bought a few music DVDs from overseas some time ago and my player then wasn't multi-region, so I copied them onto my PC and then burned them off without region protection. (Technically illegal, but I don't see why I can't make copies of discs I've bought and don't intend to lend or sell.)

Yes it is.

The LG's are the easiest to do from my experience.

Just download the unlock codes and play around a bit.

I can now put any DVD from any region or format (NTSC/PAL) and it will play.

Handy for watching Anime!

Thanks very much guys.
Ok, now the crunch, where the hell can I get unlock codes from? I somehow doubt they will be floating around the LG website, no?
TheSmartPC
There are DVD players on the market that are region-free. Meaning they play all DVDs.
I used a Pioneer DVS737, no problem playing anything.

Oh my word. Fixed!

Funny thing is, I searched for my player model (LG LH-cx345), but was told to use the hack for the DVD-5000 series, and it worked a treat.

Region code hack posted by Nuno Miranda, July 19 2002:
This is the multiregion Hack for the DVD-5000 Series LG DVD Players.

Follow this instructions exactly:

Step 1

Download the file lg5000.zip by clicking on the link:

http://www.area450.co.uk/images/LG5000.zip

(If you have any problems downloading the file e-mail me and i will send it to you: nunomiranda80@hotmail.com)

Step 2

Unzip the file lg5000.zip. It will create a directory folder called RMTM0000.

Step 3

You need a CD Writer to write a new disk with the files you've just unziped (RMTM0000 folder).

Step 4

You need a CD burning software (like Easy CD Creator, Nero, CD Clone, HP RecordNow, etc....) to make a Data disc.

Step 5

I've read not to use a 700mb capacity CD-R, but mine worked just fine! For information, I used a Memorex CD-R 700MB 24x. This speed (24x) I think is the key to success, not the capacity or size of the CD-R.

Step 6

Using the CD burning software, create a Data disc and add the directory folder RMTM0000. That's all you need !
*** When burning the disc do not use DirectCD ***

Step 7

Switch "On" your DVD player and TV and insert the newly burned disc. When prompted select "0" for multiregion and then ENTER. Power off and... it's done!

Good Luck!

Found that on this website: http://www.videohelp.com/
They have loads of other models with hacks, it was fantastic!

Your's was quite a lengthy process.

I remember the unlock for mine was hold power button and home then click menu and then the region tab in the menu is displayed where you can unlock it.
rurounikenshin
On a PC you need to flash the firmware in order to change the regions again.
RenegadeNukes
Any idea how to do it Ruk!

Can you PM me with some more details please
