Well, I can't say I am too sad that Boje has retired as I never rated him as a spinner. However it has sparked some interesting things.

Mr Lorgat recently said that SA didn't have a top spinner, and our spinners we did have were not that good.... Then they include Paul Adams in the Test Squad for the upcoming series. He hasn't played Test Cricket since 2004, and hasn't really performed at provincial level.

Now I ask, are Mr Lorgat's statements the reason that Boje has retired? I think it had quite a bit to do with it, and wouldn't be surprised if more people take the approach of Claude Henderson. For those that don't know, he has told SA cricket to get lost. So all in all, the two top performing spinners currently, have both turned on SA....

Interesting:

QUOTE
A glance at the Supersport Series averages after three rounds of matches confirms that the top four wicket-takers are all spinners while another three feature in the top 20 of the averages.

Nicky Boje and Claude Henderson have taken 17 wickets apiece in three matches and a third left-armer, Paul Harris, is not far behind with 16. In fourth place is Johan Botha with 14 victims. Tyron Pillay has ten wickets in just two matches while Thandi Tshabalala collected 5-68 against the Warriors last weekend.

Looking at that, it would appear that the second string seamers (the ones with a look in to taking over from the current guys) are not performing...

I could not entirely understand the thought behind the inclusion of Paul Adams. In the match against India A he bowled 9 overs at a cost of 54 runs. It would surely have proved more useful to include someone like Tshabalala.

Johan Botha also offers an extra batting option.

Well, Botha was in the team in Aus, but then that whole thing with his arm came out. But that has since been cleared, so I reckon he should have been included.

Well it would appear that Mr Lorgat is the reason Boje called it a day.

QUOTE
The Eagles player had threatened on Monday, during a discussion with Die Burger, to announce his retirement.

On Tuesday he carried out his threat, despite more than one plea not to so do.

He refused to elaborate. "I woke up, got up and just felt this is it. I have also discussed it with my family," he said.

Lorgat's remarks the last straw?
And it looks like Botha will be recalled. Good move IMO.

QUOTE
Johan Botha should replace Boje in the SA squad after sorting out problems with his bowling action.

Botha replaced Boje on the Proteas' tour of Australia last year but his international career came to a halt when his action was declared illegal. Since his return to cricket, he has done well for the Warriors in domestic competitions.

Its actually sad since Boje has got experience and that counts no matter even if you are the worst bowler in the world sad.gif

Cricket SA is heading for rough times, with the whole quotas things as well as lack of really developed players dry.gif

But I must say that I wish Mr Boje all the best in whatever he chooses to do...
cyfermaster
No offence to anyone, but I think the Quotas think should be scrapped. I would hate to be chosen for the national side because of any other reason than actually being good enough. Not to say we mustn't develop players. I am all for giving people all the opportunities to develop and become good enough.

He should have been retired to jail, along with Gibbs

instead poor old Hansie got all the kak sad.gif RIP Hansie

I'm glad that Boje has retired... 'cause he sucked dry.gif

Boje is a good batsman, although he never really performed for SA, mainly because of where he came in the order I think. IMO he is no loss to the team at all, and with him out the picture it opens the door for someone young who can really make a name for themselves. I don't think that Adams should be recalled either until he performs in the Domestic league. If anyone should get a call up it is Botha, or Tshabalala. I have watched Tshabalala bowl in some games, and I think he could be the next BIG bowler out this country. We just need to nurture him a bit. They must also get rid of Pietersen in both forms. He does sweet buggerall, and is a has been.

pat symcox FTW!!! especially when he licked a test match ball after shoving it under his arm pit!!! puke.gif

actually I wish Hansie was still alive and well somewhere with his wife... fucking SA cricket board BS!
cyfermaster
I still have this conspiracy theory that Hansie is alive and well, and his death was faked to get the press off his back. Wishful thinking I bet. sad.gif
