I thought it was about time we had a MotoGP thread.
So, this is where you can post anything regarding MotoGP.
Personally I am looking forward to next season. The change to the 800CC bikes, a new world champion (that I don't like ), but it's fine. Rossi et al can go out there and show him he is rubbish. hehe I think his team mate (Pedrosa) will actually do better than him (Hayden) next season.
Should be a good season all in all.

Well I am getting excited about this season. Can Rossi win the championship back... I hope so.
I see Yamaha and Camel have parted ways, but I am still not sure who is going to be there main sponsor now. Guess I will have to wait a bit more to find that info out.

Yeah, will be interesting to watch. They have been putting some really fast times on the new 800 bikes compared to last seasons's 990's.
I am also more a fan of F1 than MotoGP, but i do watch a race on the odd occasion.

All the riders are saying the 800's handle better than the 990's. Can hold corner speed better as well, so no surprise they getting good times.

Except the Honda, which apparently is the only bike that has not been completely redesigned. The other bikes had their frames shortened, as well as some other things, hence the increase in performance.
So it does not bode well for Hayden & Co this season. But watch out for the Suzuki's, apparently they have wings

Does anyone know if that Cricket World Cup matches will be shown on SABC or e.tv??
Same question for Rugby World Cup?
I ask, because, I will get DSTV for the duration of both tournaments if it isnt shown on free TV!!!

Its going to be one hell of a season, I rate that Rossi will take back his title, though I am one of the few people that think Hayden did well enough to take it last year, consistency counts for alot in top flight racing
That said I have been a Rossi fan since 97, so I am pushing for him to take it back, I should have tickets to Laguna Seca this year too!

Jealousy has now set in. I could live with all the other things you said, but now I am seriously jealous. Laguna Seca. Actually a MOTO GP race.
I am also a big fan of his. Got one of his supporter caps. Not a cheap cap I must say. Hayden was consistant, but that doesn't mean I must like him. I didn't say he didn't deserve the title. Did I? Let's face it though, Rossi was very unlucky with mechanical failures and tyre problems. That siad, it is all apart of racing. Man, that French GP still makes me sad. That would have won him the Championship. Oh well, it is all over now and I look forward to this season.

Just a thought: Rossi is not the guy that nearly won, Hayden is the chap that nearly threw it all away, opening the door for Rossi.

It works both ways. Hayden was unlucky once the whole season. Right at the end. Rossi was unlucky on multiple occassions. Which is why I prefer not to say Hayden almost through it away. Lets face it, he didn't almost throw it away. He was outridden in the closing stages of the season, and then was unlucky to be taken down. In fact, I wish he wasn't taken down because Rossi would have ridden better in the last race of the season. Would have been a more exciting race. Alas, it did not happen and everything that happened is a part of racing. So I am now going to leave last season behind me and just look forward to the NEW one. Just over a month.

Some MotoGP news:
QUOTE
Five times former world champion Valentino Rossi threw down the gauntlet to his rivals in this year's title race when he beat the lap record at the Jerez circuit in official pre-season testing on Sunday.
The Italian, who lost his crown when he finished as runner-up to Nicky Hayden in last year's championship, smashed the existing circuit best lap with a time of 1 minute 38.394 seconds on his Yamaha.
Hayden was over a second slower than Rossi while Pedrosa was pretty close 0.133 slower.

Well the first round of the moto GP season was pretty darn good. Well done to Casey Stoner. That dude rode an awesome race, and that Duke was just AWESOME down that straight. The yami was definately lacking some power there. Jerez should be a bit different. There isn't a LONG straight there so Rossi should have a good chance of winning should he ride there like he did a few weeks back in the Official testing. All in all I reckon it is going to be an absolutely fantastic season. and yay for Hayden only coming like 8th.

I actually feel a little sorry for Hayden, Honda have obviously developed the new bike around little wonder boy Pedrosa. But hey a champion needs to adapt so the rest of the season will show us what he is made of.
Great ride by Stoner, I don't think he would have won if it had not been for the Ducs grunt down the straight, man that thing just flew by Rossi.
Biggest dissapointment for me was Edwards, cmon Colin, you have to win at least 1 race this season!
Also great ride by Hopkins, should see a few podiums this season
cyfermaster
Mar 15 2007, 06:47 AM
Yeah, I agree with you. That bike/straight combo was awesome. He did however ride awesome. Holding off Rossi, and not letting the pressure of getting passed a few times effect him. Also he set the fastest lap of the race on the LAST lap.
I was expecting big things from Colin in that race, so was let down by that also. Hopkins rode superbly. Specially with that fooked up hand of his. Well done all round.

IMO the biggest problem facing Hayden is Honda giving wonder boy pedrosa preferential treatment, you can see that the bike was tailored around him.
Injury wise he syas he is fit so I am glad he has not used that as an excuse.
Early in the season though, we saw how important any and all points are last year so lets see how it goes

Apr 25 2007, 03:23 PM
Well, I got to say well done to Stoner. He rode extremely well again, and deserved the win. Pity Rossi had tyre problems cause I would've liked to see him challenge stoner again. Would have been nice and exciting. The crash on lap 1 also took a lot out of the race.
Good to see Hayden showing some kind of form. Hopefully he will carry on improving and now we can have some good competition at the front.

So the Ducati wins again, a 15km/h speed advantage is going to be a huge problem for Rossie et all to overcome, hope the other teams can generate some more speed
The race itself was great, of course I was cheering for Rossi who once again started on poll, dunno what happened to Edwards, he seems to be having a real crappy season.
Well done to Hopkins for his first ever podium, great riding from him
Poor old Hayden, dude just cant seem to catch a break, Elias has caused far to many accidents and "incidents" for my liking, IMO he cost Rossi the title last year when he took him out in the first race, now he may have cost Hayden the chance of finally scoring some decent points.
Still early in the season, a 15 point lead for Stoner on top but Rossi will get that back I am sure.
cyfermaster
May 7 2007, 09:06 AM
Yeah, he duke is amazing in a straight line, but the yamaha is awesome in corners and in breaking. I don't think the speed issue will be too big of a disadvantage at the european tracks. I don't recall them having extremely long straights. That being said, I would like to see the yamaha gain cut that speed difference at least in half.
Well done to stoner for another good ride. He held Rossi off, but it is it hard when you know you can just wait for the straight? 15 points is nothing and we all know that Rossi won't go down without a fight. Should be a very good season.
Was sad to see what happened to Hayden. I was happy to hear that he is still behind Honda, and not wishing he had moved to Ducatti.

World champion Nicky Hayden cut a forlorn figure after finishing 12th in the China Grand Prix on Sunday and watching Casey Stoner steer his super-quick Ducati to his third MotoGP victory of the season.
Ducati had wanted the amiable Hayden on their bike this year but instead the American stayed with Honda, a decision he said he did not regret despite a miserable start to his world title defence that has left him ninth in the standings.
"I'd be lying if I told you guys that it hadn't crossed my mind," the 25-year-old told reporters.
"But I'm where I want to be. I've always been a Honda guy and it's easier to say the grass is greener on the other side, but you dance with the girl you brought, you don't change when you get to the dance."

well done to Vermeulen. that guy is a machine in the rain. Pity about the rain though. Think it would have been really exciting if it didn't rain. Those French boys were riding awesome. Rossi was up there, and Stoner was getting there.

Tyres are costing Rossi badly this season, dunno why Michellin are just not performing this year, normally they have the edge over the Bridgestones on most tracks, but this year...
Rossi must be getting very irritated
cyfermaster
May 23 2007, 05:44 AM
agreed, but they seem to have sorted the normal tyre out. Rossi was pulling away until it got colder, and the rain came down a bit more. Now the rain tyre is fooked. anyways, I have faith in Rossi, yamaha and Michellin. They will bounce back, and it will be a close season again.

one of the reasons I like Valentino is the fact that even though he is upset about not winning, he still has time to say someone else is good, and congratulate other riders.
QUOTE
Valentino Rossi - position 6th: "Of course I'm very upset about this result because I had a very good feeling in the dry at the start. We made some good modifications to the bike, it was working very well and I thought I was going to be able to fight for the victory. Unfortunately the weather ruined it for us today! We made the pit stop and started the second part of race with hard rain tyres, because we thought it was only going to be light rain. Sadly we were wrong and when the rain got heavier my tyre was too hard for the conditions and I couldn't push. I was very slow from then on and didn't have any grip from the rear. In the last five laps it was quite dangerous as it was very hard to stay upright and I think I lost five or six seconds per lap at the end. We had hoped that this would be a track at which we could gain some ground on Stoner and it's going to be a very hard battle from here because he is very fast, not just on the straights but everywhere! I want to congratulate Chris Vermeulen today because he rode a great race, I think he's a bit of a magician in the rain!"
kudos Mr. Rossi.

Jun 4 2007, 01:03 PM
well, Rossi has finally won again. If it had rained though, it would have been very different. Those Bridgestones look awesome in the wet. Anyways, it was a fantastic race for the first 10 laps or so.
Well done to Rossi for becoming the first rider to win his home race 6 times consecutively. Quite a record that. The main thing for me is that the lead that Stoner now has is only 9 points. Makes it exciting.

It is going to be an exciting few weeks, alot of racing on the way.
Rossi is a big fan of a lot of the upcoming circuits, if Yamaha can give him the speed and his tyres can hold up I see him winning at least 3 of the next 4 races. Someone else will win in the US I think, maybe Hopkins can get his first win
cyfermaster
Jun 5 2007, 06:51 AM
Interesting enough, the last time a non-american won the US GP, it was a rider on a yamaha, so there is hope that he can win it. hehe. repeat a bit of history. although, he is not a fan of the track. I reckon Mr Hayden could do well there. He loves the track, and he is afterall American....
Yeah Rossi should do well in a few of the upcoming races. They need to cut that speed difference by at least 7kms I reckon.

I feel quite sorry for Hayden, so many people saying he did not deserve the win this year and that his poor performances this year are proving them right
IMO he has had bad luck, bad tyres and I honestly feel that Honda are putting more resources onto Pedrosa than Hayden, I mean that little Honda looks tailored to suit Pedrosa, Hayden looks very uncomfortable on it. But props to him, he is not blaming anyone or pointing fingers, he just admits things are not going well and that he must try harder. Much respect
cyfermaster
Jun 5 2007, 07:23 AM
yeah, I gained a bit more respect when I read an article in which he basically said you don't change dates at the dance. Mucho respect for him on that. I do tend to agree with you that they are gunning for Pedrosa though, and it is a pitty. Yes, I don't like Hayden much, but I would much prefer to Rossi beat him while he is challenging, rather than the way things are going now.
That said though, Yamaha and Rossi managed to get through their problems time and time again, so it does say a lot about Rossi, as well as that when the team works for you, you can get things going right. More proof that Honda is not really there for Hayden??? I still don't rate him in the same class as Rossi though. Actually, none of them really fit in there... IMO.

Jun 5 2007, 07:42 AM
Nobody is in the same class as Rossi, they are all a few steps below
That said pretty much anyone on the roster is an amazing rider, I mean take the guys that leave MotoGP for Superbikes, guys finishing 15t, 16th end up being world champs in SBK, says something doesnt it
IMO the guys that make it to the MotoGp grid are all top class riders, unfortunately for them they are the interns while Rossi is the Doctor
