This is yet another reason why I say we slap a post limit requirement on the arcade. There's no point in wasting bandwidth on people who are only here to leech and not contribute anything (and end their posts with /gay).

Hi everyone, My name is Alex and I wanted to say thanks for all of the games y'all provide for entertainment. I appreciate it. I hope they come back some time soon, but I am not going to be quite so rude as the initial poster of that comment. Take care and enjoy Thanks again. -Alexecon

Unfortunately alexecon, not everyone is as appreciative of benefits such as the arcade. Hopefully it'll be functioning again soon.
In the meantime though feel free to post

Yes, the point system will work. Worked well when I was testing it.
Welcome alexcon, hope you enjoy your stay here. Feel free to post, start topics and play some games (when they are back up)

G'day all.. Just wanted to say that i would be dissapointed if a post limit for the arcade were to be introduced. I'm not big on posting in forums, i just come here to enjoy the arcade and kill some time. I see it like going to the gym.. those who go there to use the treadmills and lose weight shouldn't feel that they have to do weights and bulk up if thats not their thing.. If the site admins feel that's the way to go so be it.. but it will make me a sad panda
In any case, it has been a pleasure kicking all your asses, and i hope to continue doing so in the future.. Cheers!

[my oppinion]Difference is, they pay to go to the gym. So they can therefore use the treadmills, or weights to do whatever they want.[/my oppinion]
The forum is not only meant to be about the arcade, why not kill some time by posting some topics about things you like, hobbies etc.... You don't have to post daily, just from time to time.
P.S. You haven't kicked everyones asses....

I can honestly say that I have never considered myself able of kicking many asses, and I don't think I am going to start now, but whatever works for you all. I still have a full-time job to work at, so I can't get as much practice as I used to this summer.
by the way, I wouldn't exactly recommend using the point system, although I would press the idea of recommending registration for posting high scores and expanded access for some of the games that aren't the newest. Or I might be wrong. I accept that I am wrong enough in my job so I am used to it. enjoy all.

Thanks for your input alexecon. You make some valid points. However could you please elaborate a little on why you wouldn't recommend the points system?

People forget that this is a forum with an arcade addon, not the other way around. This place has been going for years without an arcade, and to let people come here just to play games completely defeats the purpose of the board.
There are plenty of free gaming sites online; I don't see why people cannot just go to those if they don't want to contribute to V9. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I'm sure many of the older members here share my sentiments.

I realize that this was established as a forum, with the arcade additionally, but I guess the one thing that would really be a drawback, in my opinion, would be that if comments were mandatory, then people that arrive here and just want to play, when faced with posting something, will settle for the bare minimum.
Then you will probably get more of the "fix it, it is broken" or rambling nonsense comments that would register as a comment, but fail to live up to an actual forum discussion since that is the bare minimum required to fulfill the requirement.
Otherwise then someone would have to police the posts to determine what is a post and what isn't.
Or I could be just overusing my Master in Economics that I just finished. I often find that I rely a little too much on the theoretical underpinnings of some of economics (such as the rational choice theories, free-rider issues, and externalities). Sorry to ramble and sound a little nuts espousing philosophical arguements for a gaming forum. enjoy. -Alexecon ps fix it it doesn't work

It's not a case of high society, it is a case of basic decency.

The point is that we're not an arcade site where people can just come to play: we're a forum (and a community) and the arcade is an added bonus for our members. I see your point about people spamming to get enough posts to play, but the idea is that they'll eventually become active members and help the forum grow.

'Gay' is insulting the mods and admins in your first post on the forum. 'Gay' is also usurping our bandwidth when you have no intention of contributing to the community.
And no, this is not a 'online high society' as you call it: this is an established board with a close community of members, and demanding things from us when you're not willing to contribute in return is not something that is looked kindly upon by anyone here.
If you just want your 'gaming fix' you can go elsewhere, homeboy.

thanks for the additional info about the history here. I can honestly say that some of it is news to me, but that is mainly my ignorance. thanks for putting the games back on-line by the way.
PS I say you all should ban that person. sounds like a putz with too much time on his hands. (not that I probably am not, but at least I have a little more of a vocabulary) also perhaps e-elitist would sound better than "high society" but I guess he was too inbred to think much about the terminology.

I am very impressed, that would be perfect retribution for rudeness, very good call Millennia.
That is the exact reason why I don't play games at work, that and the warning I get every time I log onto a gov't computer and it gives me the message that I have no right to privacy on the computer and that it is subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Something about big brother watching is just a little unsettling for me.
