Numerous times we’ve been asked – via Mailbag – whether a third instalment of the “Ace Ventura” series would be happening, and well, we’ve chortled at the idea. You’ll never guess what just got greenlit?
Granted, the new “Ace Ventura” probably won’t star Jim Carrey – so maybe we were, kinda, right – because the film will centre on a new, younger, tyke who will play the offspring of the great Pet Detective.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Morgan Creek has hired Jeff Sank and brothers Jason and Justin Heimberg (these were the guys that were also writing a “Kingpin” sequel at one stage) to write the new sequel. The two previous "Ventura" comedies -- 1994's "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" and the following year's "Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls" -- grossed more than $180 million domestically and helped establish Jim Carrey as one of the highest-paid comedy actors in Hollywood.
In this new movie, the eccentric detective's son steps into his father's shoes to take over the family business.
Bleh. An Ace Ventura movie without Jim Carrey is like a porno without nudity.

Just remember what happened with the Mask and Dumb & Dumber sequels without Jim Carrey. Lamest idea ever which has been tried 2 times before without success.

That's it right there. Dumb and Dumber = Funny Dumb and Dumberer = OMG CRAP!!!
Mask = Classic! Son of the Mask = OMG FAILURE (Even though I like Jamie Kennedy)
What's missing in these examples? Prophecy: Ace Ventura (both) = Pretty damn funny Ave Ventura (w/o Jim) = WTF were they thinking?

Number two had its moments, purely cos Jim Carrey was in otherwise it would've sucked (with the same material). I just can't picture anyone else playing his character or even his son. The horrors of Dumber & Dumberer just can't escape my mind

The reason why Ace worked also was because of Jim's rubber-faced antics. I don't know of another actor (off-hand anyway) who can pull off those faces.
Plus brining in another unknown actor (look and Dumb And Dumberer) would also just jeopardise the movie even more.
Jim was at least known for his work on In Living Color. Anyone remember the sea captain he played? He reminds me SO much of Ace.

Yugh! No Jim Carey indeed:

Ralph Waite, possibly best known for his role as Reverend Norman Balthus on TVs “Carnivale” or as John Walton on TV classic "The Waltons", has joined the cast of the new “Ace Ventura” sequel.
Directed by David Mickey Evans (“The Sandlot”, “The Final Season”) the new film sees Ace Ventura’s son (Josh Flitter) step up to the plate when his mother is wrongly arrested for stealing a baby Panda. Waite, whose other films include “The Bodyguard”, "Cliffhanger" and “Homeward Bound” (he voiced the role of ‘Shadow’), will play Grandpa in the movie.
Filming in Florida, the pic co-stars Emma Lockhart (who played young Rachel Dawes in “Batman Begins”) and Reed Alexander (TVs “Will & Grace”). Universal will distribute.

Ace Ventura can not survive without Jimbo! He made the movie what it was
I'll need to bring a pillow to this one. If it turns out anything like son of the mask or Dumb and Dumberer

Jim Carey made the AV movies good. Without him they are going to be a bigger letdown than street zombies...

I reckon Attack of The Killer Pocket Protectors would be more interesting than AV w/o Jim Carrey
