Out of all channels in the world they add...The Disney Fucking Channel!

Nevermind the fact that widescreen is currently being looked into, the quality of their broadcasts are of so so quality at times and constant re-runs make you feel like you are stuck in a loop of life or something.

Thank you DSTV for giving us this great channel which will no doubt rock my world every single day!
Heir_of_Isildur
Ass-munkees... we need MTV-2!!!
JuCa
Yar, we need lots of shit for the price we pay monthly!

Whats up with all the filler channels anyway that no one watches?

Another monopoly that sucks the money out of their consumers!
hunter
I reckon for what we pay we get a decent variety.

Discover, NG, Animal Planet, History chan, ESPN

Worth R400 to me tongue.gif

But why can't they do it better. I never watch FTV, Travel TV, The Cooking Channel, Cartoon Network, Go, OMG THE LIST IS SOOOOO LONG!

Why can't I remove these channels from my bouquet and get a reduction in price?

Do you think they asked their clients which channels they would like to see? I very much doubt it, 'cause they saw that millions of kiddos are watching Cartoon Network (and whatever other kids channels there are) and figured it would be the right thing to do... for their pockets!
JuCa
Thats true Heir_of_Isildur, there are so many channels I never watch at all and mostly because the content either sucks or I am not interested in it. They say that their user base is not big enough to sell individual packages / channels. I believe that cos they only have like 1.4 million subscribers or something but still, that shouldnt be an excuse to shove lame ass channels and content in our necks.

Channels I basically never watch or could live without :

Mnet Movies 1 (reruns ftw), Mnet Movies 2 (more reruns ftw), Hallmark (lame movies ftw), Mnet Series (reruns ftw), BBC (no interest), Zone Reality (reality shows suck), Animal Planet (no interest), BBC Food (no interest), Travel Channel (no interest), FTW (fap only lasts that long tongue.gif), TBN (why no islam tv?), Rhema Tv (once again, why no islam tv?), BBC World (nah), CNN (Americana News?), Sky News (nah), Sabc Africa (are you kidding me?), CNBC (just Leno & Conan), Summit Tv (first time I hear about that), Parliamentary (woohoo), KTV (dont they show all this on Mnet already?), Boomerang (reruns), Cartoon Network (reruns), GO (lame ass teen chan with crappy broadcast / quality), Channel O (blah), Mtv Base (blah)....

Now I understand that DSTV shouldnt just cater for me or my family but seriously, some channels could go for most people imo.

I also understand that DSTV can't control content on channels they just broadcast from somewhere else but once again that shouldnt be my problem right? Get something else if a channel keeps playing the same shit over and over!

And I hate the fact that they try to rub of a new channel (made by DSTV) and fill it with reruns and old content (GO is the perfect example for this).
hunter
Doubt that will ever be the case. How do you prioritise cost? Ok 50 chans R8 each chan per month?

Lets say I watch 100 hours a month, tahst what R4 an hour for entertainment

All good in my eyes

True, if you break it down it appears like nothing. Same can be said for internet / broadband I guess (although those prices are even higher) and yet it is too expensive imo. Why only 1.3 subscribers in this country and not more?
Surge
I gotta agree with hunter about the price and what you get.

There are a LOT of channels I dont bother watching, like Travel )too heartsore to see places I cannot afford to go to sad.gif), or Fashion TV (ok, the midnight stuff has boobies sometimes, so then I might watch tongue.gif), and others.

Look at the alternative, you will only get SABC 1/2/3, and etv, which are boring as hell in content, and there is WAY too much low grade local content on those channels.

I have not had DSTV for long, but for sure cannot do without it.

I agree that the Disney Channel is a lame one to bring on. They should rather have made the effort and brought back the Sci-Fi Channel. sad.gif

Juca, to my knowledge there is an Islam channel as well on the boquet.

Okay, change Islam to Scientology tongue.gif

That wasn't my point, I find it to be rather expensive for what we get and why the fact that the choice is not there makes it even suckier. Sure you can watch wonderfull free tv (free by paying your license) but we all know that sucks, you can get Mnet (R200 or something?) or the even better DSTV Compact (11 channels or something?) but you are still fingered up your ass in my eyes.

I do understand that it is hard to make everything better in a country where most people can't even afford a normal thing like television content (at least not the DSTV content), but yeah...

I must say though, Mnet is the maindraw of DSTV. They actually bring content pretty quick and that is probably the channel I watch the most but once again, rehashing their content into the other channels and trying to sell that as hip, trendy, great, fun, etc etc isn't my idea of WOOPIDYFUCKITIDOO.

It just that the idea of Disney channel pisses me off, also the lack of Sopranos kicked me in the butt sad.gif
Ce'Nedra
I agree that they could make DSTV more 'consumer friendly.' It does have a lot of
channels that are a complete waste of time and the reruns kill me sometimes ermm.gif ....
But.... My decoder has just crashed and burned and the saying:
'You dont realise what you have untill it is gone comes to mind crying.gif .

Have you seen the rubbish that they're showing on national tv?.. *reaches for noose*
I'd much rather pay R400 a month and watch the quality rubbish and reruns that they
offer on DS' than the quantity of rubbish that they broadcast on SA channels....

RustPuppet
Euro porn FTW! tongue.gif

But seriously, they already have channels for kids, give us something different for a change. I also don't see why we must pay for all the foreign language channels and other crap that we don't watch.
JuCa
Well my parents just watch the news on BVN (channel 91) so yeah, cant diss the foreign channels tongue.gif

It is a good thing that they watch that channel (that hour a day the do) cos else my dad probably wouldnt pay for dstv biggrin.gif
Milano
Interesting...I never thought about the cost on a per hour basis.

So if I watch 50 hours a month (+- 1.5 hours a day) then I am paying R8 per hour. That is pretty steep.

I just pay it because there is no other satellite alternative but that is quite costly in hourly terms.

Somehow, I knew you were gonna bring another religion into it.

I guess DSTV's price value will depend on what YOU get out of it.

I enjoy the movies, and M-Net. In fact, were it not for DSTV, I would not have had the chance to easily see classics that I have heard of, but never seen, like Psycho (1966).

I get a lot ofr value from the "informative" channels, like History, Discovery and National Geographic, and I rarely see any good documentaries being advertised on "free" channels.

Then i get to see the Grand Prix live, unlike watching the delayed races late night on Sundays, and then I get to watch some English football live as well.

So, looking at what I benefit, as well as hunter I guess, we get more out of DSTV than Juca does, so even though there will be a Disney channel, it's no real trainsmash for moi, since I have so little time, and quite a bit to watch... so in other words, Juca, get a job to keep you busy. tongue.gif
hunter
on that note how much time do you actually spend watching?

i watch maybe an hour a day during the week, just to busy to watch more

weekends i prob watch about 4 - 5 hours

what sucks with pvr is u record it all, but never have time to watch tongue.gif
Surge
Weekdays, it varies for me. I get home late these days, so anything from 1 - 2 hours. Weekends, depends on how much sport there is, but it can be anywhere in the region of 6 - 12 hours in total...
CrEaTi0n
I agree with hunter, the price isnt bad, and actually great value for all the channels you are getting.

If you dont watch all of those, it cant be DSTV's problem, they are trying to cater to the most people they can, and i think they are doing a good job. I also agree that they should bring more channels like MTV2 etc which would be great!

Hey, atleast i get to see the little mermaid again. Ariel, shes hot! tongue.gif
JuCa
Okay I watch alot of television (like 5 - 6 hours day) and mostly in the night + whatever good series is on Mnet in the early nights sometimes. I have not seen too many great movies on Mnet, Mnet Movie, etc etc. Sometimes yes, but not till the extent that I know that I can sit down and just watch a good thing whenever I turn on DSTV. Maybe I am being difficult? I however still feel that the price is too high and that the fact that we don't have a choice but to pay it sucks! (Free tv is not even an option imho).

Oh well...

No, I agree with you. It's like everything in SA! We pay too much for cars, cell-phones, internet, bank-fees and... TV. WHY CAN I NOT CHOOSE WHAT TV I WANT TO WATCH AND PAY FOR THAT ONLY?!? (And don't ask me how they'll charge it... that's not my job)

We have 2 options for TV in SA... DSTV, or Free-TV... ANOTHER FUCKING MONOPOLY PEOPLE!!!

dry.gif That is even worse... anyways, I thought they scrapped that 'cause nobody gave a shit!
CrEaTi0n
Lol! It might be a good idea to be able to choose your channels and pay a certain price for say 10 of them, and then an extra 10 etc...

But then again, the biggest cost with DSTV is the dish and decoder, which is hard to justify paying for in one lump :\
JuCa
Yes, that compact dstv is just bullshit and you might aswell pay for the full package if you even consider that!
Gitano
fear Sky in the UK, there are like 4 MTV channels,....
MTV2, MTV dance, MTV rock, MTV alternative etc, it was awesome!
JuCa
Yeah rub it in Gitano sad.gif
CrEaTi0n
Gee thanks sad.gif

I dont even have DSTV :\
Gitano
Im in Dubai, I dont have all those channels!!!
I wish!
All I get is arabic crap!
I have pretty much stopped watching TV altogether. All I really watch now is Mythbusters on discovery, because thats included in the DTSV package we get here.

Hi Hettie here,
New in UAE, trying to find Dstv for us here. do you have any advice 4 me. found Mnet & Kyknet on KUDU for only 20$ US for 4 mnths on pc. but would like to have Dstv with SA sport as I love athletics and am missing out on the home series, and International series in preparation 4 the Olympics.
My son Greg, has a new Xbox 360, and we've wireless ADSL by Etisalat. We're looking at local cable TV, E-vision, but I only see Soccer and Rugby advertised.
I would appreciate any help. ermm.gif
